Silversun Pickups to Mitt Romney: Stop Playing Our Song or Else!

by at .

Republican candidates. Will they ever learn?

The band Silversun Pickups wants Mitt Romney to quit using their song "Panic Switch" at events, firing off a cease and desist letter to make sure he does.

According to frontman Brian Aubert, Romney has been using their 2009 single (below) without asking for permission ... not that he would've received it:

Mitt Romney at the Olympics

"We don't like people going behind our backs, using our music without asking, and we don't like the Romney campaign. We're nice, approachable people."

"We won't bite. Unless you're Mitt Romney!"

Aubert also notes that the candidate's illegal use of the song is ironic, because "he is inadvertently playing a song that describes his whole campaign."

The letter notes that in 2008, GOP nominee John McCain was sued by Jackson Browne for using his hit song "Running on Empty" without permission.

That was just one of many such examples, so many in fact that the GOP promised to "respect and uphold the rights of artists and to obtain permissions."

Don't hold your breath there. Perhaps Romney and Paul Ryan should rely on a steady diet of Toby Keith, Ted Nugent and Dave Mustaine from now on.

I listen to Silversun Pickups! And anybody else would have said the same thing! If he was using Beyonces music she wouldve said something....or Linkin park. Its rude to just use it without asking. Its their fuc*ing music not his. Its disrespect.

A 4th rate band, most people never heard of. They're lucky, anyone plays their music, and should be honored, that it's played by, the Romney campaign. If that worthless, Obama clown's minions were playing it, then sue.

@Montana Hey! You must be quite fascinated by Romney's full name, ha! Is it so important to address him in such a manner. Romney's a great man...a far cry better than Obama. I love his VP pick! I see better days down the road. Romney-Ryan 2012

Willard Mitt Romney then tells us that his second success is 2002 Winter Olympics. All 2002 Winter Olympics financials have been destroyed, but ok lets take his word, success. This is Willard Mitt Romney calling card that what our country needs now is someone like him a supposed successful business man. So given all of Willard Mitt Romney, supposed success, don’t you expect to see an extraordinary success in his position as governor of Massachusetts, his one and only public sector job? If you look at the majority of his statements as to why he should be governor of Massachusetts, they almost mirror his current ones, mainly “I am a successful business man”. But when we look at Massachusetts, it was an ordinary mediocrity, to the point that he could only survive one term, that how good this guy was, but ok according to him he was a success. Now he wants the top public sector job, hmmm, no not on my watch!
