James Holmes Shooting Victim Pushes for Painful Death Penalty

by at . Comments

Carli Richards, a 22-year old who was shot in the back by James Holmes during his alleged rampage in Aurora, Colorado on July 20, wants to see the murder suspect given the death penalty.

In the most painful way possible.

"I think death by firing squad would be totally justified," Richards tells TMZ, showing that site her body's bullet holes. "Just injecting him is painless."

Holmes is facing 24 counts of first-degree murder and prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty if he's convicted, as long as surviving victims or families of those killed are in support of that punishment.

"I had enough needles in me that night to know that a needle isn't that bad. I want him to see what it feels like," Richards says of her hospital experience and her feelings on Holmes, adding:

"I wish someone would shoot him and let him bleed out… He shot me with stuff they use to shoot birds and deer. I want him to feel what it's like to feel that helpless."

Both Richards and her boyfriend made it out of the movie theater alive, but this young woman says she's still in pain and her injuries are preventing her from working.

Elsewhere, Steven Hernandez - the brother of late victim Rebecca Wingo, whose mother is suing the theater inside which the tragedy took place - echoes Richards' sentiments.

"Allow the justice system to punish this murderer," he also tells TMZ. "I want to see him sentenced to death and I hope he sits in jail many years waiting to die.

What do you think, readers? If found guilty, should James Holmes receive the death penalty?

Come on people this guy is trying to claim he is mentally ill. He was studying the human mind. He planned this whole mess weeks before even trying to kill the police as they responded to a noise complaint. We cannot let this idiot walk he killed 12 people, one of them a 6 year old and one that wasn't counted, an unborn child. The Bible says an eye for an eye. Let him suffer for years in prison and then be put to death for his horrible crime. He knows right from wrong and he deserves it.

The reason we have so much crime in this country is because we DON'T give the death penalty. I personally am not in favor of killing people. HOWEVER, you have to make an example out of people or these things will keep happening. In olden times, your hand was cut off for stealing. That stopped a lot of people from stealing. Do you think they would have stopped if they knew they would be kept in jail for a few years? Nope. And to the person who thinks mental illness is treatable like cancer is: Sorry kiddo, you have obviously never known someone who is mentally ill. You can drug them up, but they will still have it and just become zombies. Nor does counseling ever help someone who's brain chemistry is just not right. Sociopaths don't give a flying f**k who they hurt or what they do. Just kill him so he has no opportunity of parole like so many awful criminals that end up out of jail.

"Two wrongs don't make a right." Agreed! Even though he DOES deserve a terrible punishment, it won't help him or us. People who are truly murderous are not changed by being tortured.
And we are not healed by being killers ourselves. God gave life, only He should take it away. If we put James Holmes in jail and we are safe from him, we can begin to heal, and maybe a miracle will happen and he will be sorry for what he did, if he is sane enough to be sorry. There's no good to come from killing this man.

I agree. This country has allowed mental illness to have a negative stigma. Mental illness is a chronic illness yet we don't view it that way. We don't view cancer or diabetes that way. Yet we sweep mental illness under the rug. Its up to the health care system to change the view of mental illness. These people have the same right as everyone for good health care. I agree with the above post that with him not ending his own life, we will now hopefully be able to do research on mental illness and provide the kind of care that is needed to protect the individual from harming themselves or others. What happened in Colorado was horrible but we need to find out the real reason and learn from this experience.

She is quoted as saying "I wish someone would shoot him and let him bleed out… He shot me with stuff they use to shoot birds and deer. I want him to feel what it's like to feel that helpless." Well now, maybe she is getting to know what it feels like for birds and deers to get shot.

Usually I don't always agree with the death penalty as killing the person can make us look just as bad as them. However in this case he has caused so much pain to so many families that I don't think just locking him up will bring justice and satisfaction to the families.

I can't stand whiny do-gooders boohooing about poor James Holmes and his mental health issues. It's extremely unfortunate that we live in a society that allows mass murders to claim insanity and practically get away with murder. Maybe James Holmes doesn't deserve the death penalty, but he definitely deserves to spend the rest of his miserable life rotting in prison.

"Firing Squad" Are you not doing what he did ?? Yet you all have your faculties.
It's understandable there is so much hatred and anger, but why turn yourselves into killers. I have to agree with all you say Sierra. The help should have come a long time ago and the pain and suffering of a mental illness I know doesn't make up for what he did, but he is going to wish he was dead and he will most likely accept it for what he did. The guy certainly wasn't in his right mind.
