Sherman Hemsley, Star of The Jeffersons, Dead at 74

Sherman Hemsley, the actor who created one of the most memorable characters in sitcom history, died today of at his home in El Paso. He was 74.

Hemsley starred first on All My Family and later on The Jeffersons as George Jefferson. He was also a professional singer who released a single in 1989 titled "Ain't that A Kick in the Head."

TMZ first reported Hemsley's passing and has no news on the cause of his death. The actor does not leave behind any wife or children.

    Sherman Hemsley made the character George Jefferson likeable. He really loved his family deep down inside. I also loved him on the show Amen. Thanks for the heads up on the Evertalk page Christina. I will visit it.
