Russell Simmons Praises "Courage and Honesty" of Frank Ocean

by at . Comments

A day after Frank Ocean admitted to the world that he has shared at least one sexual experience with a man, music mogul Russell Simmons has come out in full support of the R&B star.

In a Global Grind entry, the Def Jam Records founder reached out to Ocean and wrote:

Today is a big day for hip-hop. It is a day that will define who we really are. How compassionate will we be? How loving can we be? How inclusive are we?

I am profoundly moved by the courage and honesty of Frank Ocean. Your decision to go public about your sexual orientation gives hope and light to so many young people still living in fear. These types of secrets should not matter anymore, but we know they do, and because of that I decided to write this short statement of support for one of the greatest new artists we have.

His gifts are undeniable. His talent, enormous. His bravery, incredible. His actions this morning will uplift our consciousness and allow us to become better people. Every single one of us is born with peace and tranquility in our heart. Frank just found his.

Frank, we thank you. We support you. We love you.

That pretty much says it all, doesn't it?

No Tracy sweetie, he failed to clearly state an opinion other than that he thinks that coming out isn't brave or courageous, which I then disagreed with. I DO think that he's wrong, and I said so. What's difficult to understand about that? And really, it's kind of hard to believe that I'm the one who sounds like a kid when you write like a third grader.

You deal in reality do you? Yet you say that all being gay "accomplishes" is AIDS. Gay people are not the largest spreaders of the AIDS virus, but of course you wouldn't have bothered to research that before stating something incorrectly.

Oh, and if you'd like to find where I said that not being gay is irrational I would challenge you to do so. You won't be able to because I never made that statement.

Lol! What do those sentences even say? You may be the most ironic person ever.

Lol, this from the person who just waited half an hour to reply again. Who's wanting to argue all day again? And for the record, I won a long time ago pally. I don't say you're uneducated and ignorant because I think you're winning (believe me, no one with your lack of communication skills ever wins an argument). I say you're uneducated and ignorant because you are those things.

I'm sorry, is anyone *forcing* you to be politically correct right now? It seems to me that you're getting to voice your opinion just fine. It's clear from your writing that you're not very well educated, but let me try to break it down for you: Everyone gets to have an opinion. That's the great thing about living in this country. Nobody is saying you can't have your opinion, no matter how uneducated. You're the one getting angry that someone disagrees with you, I'm just pointing out that your opinion is flawed and illogical.

And by "people" you mean...you. It speaks volumes about your character that someone like Russell Simmons praises Frank Ocean for being open and honest about his sexuality and the only response you can think of is to get all huffy about something completely irrelevant. Guess what, the fact that there are angry, ignorant people like you out there makes it a courageous act to come out as gay. It is a very scary thing to be faced with hate such as yours.

Music never had boundries to begin with. Music is music and the more we harp on the fact that he's gay or had a gay experience i personally feel it just gives people another catagory to put music and artist into.. I listen to his music and the guy is talented but the question will still be "how will this affect his music from this point on?" Is he Frank Ocean gay recording artist or is he Frank Ocean recording artist? The world needs to put its priorities in order. I mean Mr. Simmons sounds a little too overdramatic about the whole thing........ unless????????????

Pally, the point was that NOBODY said that people in the military (or firefighters or police officers) weren't brave or courageous. YOU brought that up because you're pissed off that a gay person might get called brave or courageous and you resent that. And FYI, I work with the Navy and the vast majority are incredibly accepting and friendly people, unlike yourself.
