Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter Suri Cruise was the force behind their prompt divorce settlement, as neither party wished to see her affected by it.

Katie and Tom seemed poised for nuclear war after she filed for sole custody in divorce papers, but in the end, Suri played peacemaker rather than weapon.

After Katie filed, hostility was off the charts as she looked to strip of all decision-making power in Suri's life, allegedly fueled by fears of Scientology.

Tom responded by unleashing the full power of his team of attorneys. Yet less than two weeks later, the two sides negotiated a divorce settlement.

It's almost unheard of, and they can thank Suri for it.

A series of conversations with Suri and close confidants apparently made TomKat realize the six-year-old could be irreparably damaged by parental warfare.

This hit home with both Tom and Katie, and allowed the lawyers to go into negotiations looking to deal amicably, rather than stick it to the other side.

The terms remain confidential, but Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes agreed that Suri will live primarily with her mother with "generous visitation" by her dad.

"They both love their daughter," says one source, and while he wants to be a big part of her life, forever, "Tom thinks she should be with her mother."

The superstar also "didn't want his family dragged through the mud," says the source. "Neither one of them wanted this to be hashed out in public."

Due credit to both for seeing that it wasn't.

Miley Cyrus hung out at a Hollywood nightclub over the weekend, but this time there was no bong smoking of any kind involved.

Just dancing and singing.

The 19-year old and some friends - including actor Ryan Rottman - partied down at Beacher's Madhouse at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Saturday night, moving and shaking to songs by Flo Rida and Chris Brown… before Miley herself was invited up on stage to serenade a drag queen named Vicky Vox.

And serenade Vox Cyrus did, belting out a fun version of "Happy Birthday" that included a references to the large woman's large breasts. Watch the video and see what we mean:

Wayne Brady is known as a nice guy, but a recent comment by Bill Maher about President Barack Obama does not have him feeling like one at the moment.

Speaking to Aisha Tyler on her podcast, Girl on Guy, he took issue with fellow comedian Maher for referring to President Obama as "your Wayne Brady."

He also slammed Maher for his reputed "preference for black women."

"That means it's a diss to Obama to be called me because he wants a brother brother," he said. "Just because you f*%k black hookers, just because you had that particular black experience ... I have to stop myself from getting into it."

"I realize if I had gone on his show, or even doing it online, I'm not going to win. As soon as you back off, he still has his platform to say whatever he wants to."

But he didn't back off just yet.

Brady said to prove "how black Wayne Brady is," he would "gladly slap the shit out of Bill Maher in front of Coco and Ebony and Fox, three ladies of the night he has hired."

Your move, Bill.

Jeffrey S. Hubbard, a family friend of Usher and Tameka's Foster, is under investigation for the role he played in the accident that has left 11-year old Kyle Glover in a coma.

According to the Georgia police department, Hubbard was riding his jet ski along Lake Lanier and "ran over the top" of two juveniles who were being pulled by a pontoon and riding an inner tube.

Sgt. Mike Burgamy, as reported by The New York Daily News, says two of his rangers actually witnessed the crash. He added that alcohol did NOT play a role, but neither did any kind of mechanical malfunction.

The second victim, an unidentified 15-year old female, and Glover were both wearing life jackets.

“One minute the jet ski was running around, the next he ran over the top of them. It happened that quickly,” Burgamy said. “It appears the watercraft did strike both juveniles, with the male taking the brunt of the force.”

Anthony Sedlak, the Canadian celebrity chef, has died at the age of 29.

Sedlak's family released a statement Monday saying he collapsed from an undiagnosed medical condition and was found in his North Vancouver apartment Friday.

He was best-known as host of Food Network Canada's show The Main, and a judge on Family Cook Off, as well as author of the bestseller cookbook, The Main.

Sedlak won a silver medal representing Canada at the World Junior Chef Challenge in New Zealand and the Food Network's Superstar Chef Challenge at age 23.

He then went on to host his own show for four seasons.

The statement from the Sedlak family thanks his fans and associates for all their love and condolences. A private funeral service will be held in Vancouver.

If things weren't uncomfortable enough, Luann calls Carole out for not standing during her turn. Minus 9. The Countess might write books about etiquette but that was a definite dig at the Princess.

If The Bachelorette star Emily Maynard felt that her decision to cut Chris loose after last week's hometown dates was hard, this one was near impossible.

Things got even more serious, emotional and dramatic in Curacao as Emily went on very romantic dates with Arie Luyendyk, Jr., Sean Lowe and Jef Holm.

Three worthy candidates, only two roses in play. Who would she pick? And how would she handle the fantasy suite card situation, given that she's a mom?

In articles-that-are-somehow-real-and-not-from-the-Onion news, a man who owed over $32,000 in child support was recently lured out of hiding.

With the promise of a role in a new Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy.

After getting a call from the film's "producers," Joshua Garlathy didn’t think twice about leaving his Hawaii hideout and heading back to Allentown, Pa.

There, his ex-girlfriend had spent 19 YEARS trying to get Garlathy to pay the money he owes to support their kid to no avail ... until an idea struck.

The “producer” was actually bounty hunter Scott Bernstein, and Banished in Brooklyn - in which Garlathy would play “a small part as a guitar-strumming bad guy by the name of Dirty Nick” - is not a real movie, though it sounds right up Jen's alley.

Hope Dog Chapman is taking notes.

Amazingly, this is not the first plot of its kind. In Alabama, Operation Iron Snare rounded up deadbeat parents with Alabama-Auburn football tickets.

The pacu, a non-native toothy fish found in Illinois' Lake Lou Yaeger recently, can weigh up to 55 pounds and is known to eat nuts ... in more ways than one.

Responding to a report that a fisherman had reeled in a piranha there June 7, officials identified as a pacu. Another pacu was seen a couple of weeks later.

Pacus primarily eat nuts, aquatic vegetation and snails, wildlife experts told KDSK, and pose no real threat to humans ... well, most of the time at least.

Residents of Papua New Guinea may beg to differ.

There, according to British fisherman Jeremy Wade, the pacu is known as the "ball cutter" because ... well you can probably figure that one out, right?

In 2011, Wade said locals informed him that two fisherman had died from blood loss after something in the water had bitten off their testicles. Ouch.

"The locals told me that this thing was like a human in the water, biting at the testicles of fishermen," Wade said, noting that such attacks are uncommon.

One can only hope.
