Kirk Cameron Stars in "Champion of Marriage" Video; GLAAD Slams Actor in Statement

by at . Comments

Kirk Cameron, who caused an uproar by calling homosexuality unnatural, detrimental to society and immoral in an interview with Piers Morgan in March, is at it again.

Well, a lot more subtly this time.

The National Organization for Marriage has just released a video labeling Cameron "one of America's most important champions of marriage."

It's an apparent tip of the hat in response to his vocal opposition to gay marriage, and suffice it to say, gay rights activists are far from pleased.

"Kirk Cameron and the anti-gay activists at NOM are making a claim that Americans know to be false," GLAAD President Herndon Graddick said.

"This rhetoric won't work anymore. Communities across this country love and cherish their LGBT neighbors, friends and family members."

Cameron's anti-gay views are not as expressly stated this time, but the implication of the video above is that marriage only applies to heterosexuals.

"If we want a great future in this world, we have to take God at his word," the former Growing Pains star says in the "Champion of Marriage" video.

"God makes it really clear that society and civilization is really held together by the glue of families... It needs to be a home that is full of faith."

"In order to have that kind of a home, marriages need to be strong because that's ultimately going to serve as the foundation for our family."

"When a man and a woman say 'I do,' they are committing for a lifetime to love each other and to model what love is and what forgiveness is and what joy is to their kids."

Seemingly everything Cameron said about marriage should go for anyone taking vows, regardless of the sex of the spouses. Or so you would think.

Apparently NOM thinks otherwise, though. The group's latest press release praises GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's anti-gay marriage stance.

What do you think? Same-sex marriage:

I couldn't agree more Patty. It also says love thy neighbor and ye who is without sin should cast the first stone. You should be coming out any day now that you are seeking sainthood. You streamlined to fit your needs for this discussion. Live by the whole bible or not at all. You can't have it both ways. REPENT SINNER!

No one said he can't express it, but as he can, so can others. And the argument of it takes 2 to make 1 is just silly. Is procreating the only reason all of you that are against homosexuals? So all of you only have sex 2 make babies right? No way. Also, saying 'god wrote the bible is igorant. The bible is supposed 2 b god's inspired word. It's not the 1st religion, either. And what has been done iin its name is abhorrent - mass murder, hate, bigotry, rape, just to name a few. If any ppl that read the bible in its present incarnation(s) bothered to actually study it in its original languages & read some history about how it came about & all the beliefs that came about b4 it, you'd be shocked. The bible & its religion are meant 2 control the masses, but hey, it's working pretty well.

First of all, let me say that I think Kirk Cameron is a bigot. Secondly, did God himself write the Bible? It was written by many different men who thought they had a connection to him. Thirdly, as homosexuality is not a choice, that is how God made people (and some animals and birds in case you didn't know). If God created all men equal, then his plan was to have both heterosexual people and homosexual people. Religion is the cause of most of the problems in the world today. Perhaps people thinking on their own and leaving the Bible out of it would make the world a happier place. Religion is for YOUR soul, not to preach to others. Live and let live is a motto we should all follow. By the way, I'm straight but am a strong supporter of gay rights. Did you know that gay relationships (marriages) last longer than straight ones? Love is love and that's all there is to consider.

LOVE IS LOVE, NO MATTER THE "GENDER" OR RACE OF THOSE ARE INVOLOVED....MARRIAGE IS ABOUT LOVE AND PARTNERSHIP, AND NOT ABOUT HAVING KIDS....ALOT OF STRAIGHT COUPLES EITHER CAN'T HAVE KIDS OR DECIDE "NOT" TO HAVE THEM...SHOULD THEY BE KEPT FROM GETTING MARRIED?...SAME-SEX COUPLES SIMPLY WANT THE SAME RIGHTS AND PROTECTIONS THAT "STRAIGHT" COUPLES HAVE "TAKEN FOR GRANTED" FOR YEARS....STOP USING THE BIBLE AS AN EXCUSE. I totally agree with Kirk. You cannot argue what God says in the Bible. It is written. Someone said Bible Thumpers? Well, i beg to differ, We are just repeating what God said and what is written. You cannot argue with THE HOLY BIBLE!!

Some of these comments are really nasty. Why is Kirk Cameron not allowed to express his views? I'm kinda getting sick of listening to the homosexuals telling me their views and forgetting it takes two heteros to make ONE of them. Pick and choose your battles people.

@ Grant gays aren't trying to boss everyone around, they want YOU to stop bossing THEM around and sticking your nose in their business

Animals in nature & doestictaed are 'gay,' every society has had ppl who are 'gay' the whole argument that ppl shouldn't be gay b/c they can't procreate is silly. I guess Mr. Cameron (& all that agree w/ him) only have sex 2 procreate then, right? Give me a break, that's insane.

Kirk Cameron is a champion...NOT!!!!! Back in the day, when he was on Growing Pains, Kirk used his self-righteous and stuffy-ass behavior to throw his weight around on the Growing Pains set. He used to get on the writers' nerves by trying to shove so-called storyline ideas down their throats. In general, Kirk tried to make Growing Pains unwatchable, unfunny and (most of all) B-L-A-N-D!!!!! Bottom Line: Kirk Cameron=MORON-AT-LARGE!!!!!
