Anderson Cooper: I'm Gay

by at . Comments

CNN's Anderson Cooper recently admitted for the first time, in the context of an email exchange with The Daily Beast's Andrew Sullivan, that he is gay.

Sullivan, who is also gay, asked Cooper for comment on an EW story about gay people in public life coming out differently than in years past.

As the visibility of gay people - high-profile or not - is at the core of individuals, the deceasing newsworthiness of such revelations is encouraging.

Anderson Cooper Gay

Asked for his take on the subject, Cooper told Sullivan - and gave him the go-ahead to print - what he's never matter-of-factly said before:

"The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud."

On why he hasn't made it an issue before now, he says:

"Although my job puts me in the public eye, I have tried to maintain some level of privacy in my life. Part of that has been for purely personal reasons."

"I think most people want some privacy for themselves and people they are close to."

"But I've also wanted to retain privacy for professional reasons. Since I started as a reporter 20 years ago, I've often found myself in some very dangerous places."

"For my safety and the safety of those I work with, I try to blend in as much as possible, and prefer to stick to my job of telling other people’s stories, and not my own."

"I have found that sometimes the less an interview subject knows about me, the better I can safely and effectively do my job as a journalist."

"I've always believed that who a reporter votes for, what religion they are, who they love, should not be something they have to discuss publicly."

"As long as a journalist shows fairness and honesty in his or her work, their private life shouldn't matter. I’ve stuck to those principles for my entire career, even when I’ve been directly 'the gay question,' which happens occasionally."

"I did not address my sexual orientation in the memoir I wrote several years ago because it was a book focused on war, disasters, loss and survival. I didn't set out to write about other aspects of my life."

"Recently, however, I’ve begun to consider whether the unintended outcomes of maintaining my privacy outweigh personal and professional principle."

"It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something - something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid."

"This is distressing because it is simply not true."

Curious. No one's eyes had to wander. The homosexuals were making it quite obvious to all of us. So if my eyes wandered then so did everyone elses. Yours would have too but if you choose to be in denial, that's your perogative. You would probably like goibg to a restaurant and see the patrons feed each other would you? Curious, you need to get a spine and get with the reality of the homosexual world. It's ugly out there and getting uglier. BTW, thanks for going.

It's not anyones fault YOUR eyes wandered. Oh so "flamey" to feed one another. Jealous your wife doesn't want to be fed. Looking to them for how to act.....me thinks thou do protest too much. Get out of San Fran or asked to be moved! A little too queer eye for the straight guy, *wink wink* Im gone from your world. Buh bye.

Recently my wife and I were out to dinner. Three tables away were 2 homosexuals and being very flamey. I looked over once and they were feeding each other with their forks from each other's plate. When my wife wants to try one of my shrimp she reaches over and takes it, but she has a little class and doesn't need to put on a show. I told the waiter he had 3 choices. Move us, move them or I'll move them.
He chose to move us and the homosexuals knew why by this time. Everyone else just sat there and took it. Didn't like it at all but swallowed it, as usual. One fellow came over to our table later and said we did the right thing. LMAO, I hate when people tell me I'm right. I know I'm right. Curious, you've got to get out more often and see this stuff then you'll lyao.
Speaking of asses, I have a magnet up mine. It attracts idiots.

LMAO, curious is getting a kick out of this. I'll bet curious would lhao if she walked in to the bowling alley and saw 38 heterosexuals fondling each other and some with their breasts hanging out and being squeezed. There were at least 4 homosexuals with no underwear under their skirts and their butts were being squeezed. I'll bet that the police would have done something if it were heterosexuals. lmao lmao. So would the bowling alley management. Curious I predicted shit like this 25 years ago to people just like you who were totally behind the times then and still are but I do tend to rub their noses in it time to time when they push the old homosexual thing on me. Their business, their CHOICE, lmao. Choice is what I've been saying all along. Anyone could choose to be a homosexual. It happens on a daily basis.

Where do you live, state? Absolutely no. I live in Georgia. There is no gay day. You called the cops? Lmao! Their business, their choice. Why the hell did you stay? So let me set my record straight. No no no. I have 2 sons, one gay one straight. Neither should be sloppy all over their mate in public!! Keep it private. Bowser do you want your sons with their tongue down some girls throat? It's more than just homosexuals, it's children as a whole! I do agree celebrities need to remain silent.

I took my children to a bowling alley. When I walked in I saw all these guys in skirts and skorts bowling. I asked the people at the front desk what was going on. He said it's "gay day". I said "what in fuck is gay day?" There were 32 lanes, 16 had beed allotted to homosexuals and 16 for others. They were fondling each other and kissing each other. I called the police, they did nothing. So I'm forced to have my children watch this disgusting display of dirt if they want to bowl. Do you need more examples? Homosexuality is forced upon us and getting worse. Get yours heads out of the sand

I am not bitter at all. Here comes the labelling again. I am a realist and that is where both of you miss the boat. You are in dreamland somewhere. People are forced to accept homosexuality and many other special interest groups. On your job, you cannot have an opinion of homosexuality. I know of departments of government where they have homosexual day and heterosexuals are expected to attend the events of the day. If they refuse they are questioned as to why. Homosexuality is forced upon people and everytime one comes out of the closet we all have to know about it. Get real. Quit denting the fact that it is promoted. Do you need more examples?

Bowser!!!! Billy isn't forced to agree with it. He just can't discriminate and that really is common courtesy. You are not being squeezed into anything. All you need to do is treat everyone like human beings. Do not take away rights from them and deny them of everything they are entitled to just because you don't agree with their practices. You don't have to worship them. Just treat them like people! They can have kids if they want.

Open your eyes,
Yes, I meant unity for all. You were correct. Bowser,
You are bitter!! Im unsure if your hypotheticals are just that. Of course homosexuals can adopt! You can't catch it nor is it preached. I feel parents do play a roll in their childs success. I've seen the seemingly perfect family destroy their child, it doesn't matter sexual orientation.

Avatar

Furthermore, Billy's Mommy & Daddy have to accept it or they'll be brought to school and told that Billy doesn't accept homosexuality. So Mommy & Daddy will have to force Billy to accept it even if Billy says it's unnatural and even if Mommy & Daddy don't accept it. Billy might even get kicked out of school. So you see where this is going. More and more people are forced to be pc and accept homosexuality and any other special interest group going. Hence, the bandwagon. All aboard. Well, Bowser doesn't get aboard because he thinks for himself and doesn't get squeezed into crap like this.
