Anderson Cooper: I'm Gay

by at . Comments

CNN's Anderson Cooper recently admitted for the first time, in the context of an email exchange with The Daily Beast's Andrew Sullivan, that he is gay.

Sullivan, who is also gay, asked Cooper for comment on an EW story about gay people in public life coming out differently than in years past.

As the visibility of gay people - high-profile or not - is at the core of individuals, the deceasing newsworthiness of such revelations is encouraging.

Anderson Cooper Gay

Asked for his take on the subject, Cooper told Sullivan - and gave him the go-ahead to print - what he's never matter-of-factly said before:

"The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud."

On why he hasn't made it an issue before now, he says:

"Although my job puts me in the public eye, I have tried to maintain some level of privacy in my life. Part of that has been for purely personal reasons."

"I think most people want some privacy for themselves and people they are close to."

"But I've also wanted to retain privacy for professional reasons. Since I started as a reporter 20 years ago, I've often found myself in some very dangerous places."

"For my safety and the safety of those I work with, I try to blend in as much as possible, and prefer to stick to my job of telling other people’s stories, and not my own."

"I have found that sometimes the less an interview subject knows about me, the better I can safely and effectively do my job as a journalist."

"I've always believed that who a reporter votes for, what religion they are, who they love, should not be something they have to discuss publicly."

"As long as a journalist shows fairness and honesty in his or her work, their private life shouldn't matter. I’ve stuck to those principles for my entire career, even when I’ve been directly 'the gay question,' which happens occasionally."

"I did not address my sexual orientation in the memoir I wrote several years ago because it was a book focused on war, disasters, loss and survival. I didn't set out to write about other aspects of my life."

"Recently, however, I’ve begun to consider whether the unintended outcomes of maintaining my privacy outweigh personal and professional principle."

"It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something - something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid."

"This is distressing because it is simply not true."

Even in the 20th Century homosexuality was a criminal act and often punished by castration or even death. Then along came the bleeding heart, liberal, brainwashed crowd and changed it. Now look what we have. Bare arsed homosexuals and lesbians parading in the streets making a general nuisance of themselves. Getting married, pushing it on everyone else. The term often used for homosexuals years ago was "psychopaths". So we now have thousands of psychopaths parading their filthy, disgusting CHOICE of lifestyle in the streets. We need a cleansing in tis country.

LMAO, I just about about fell off my chair with that one. I would choose the dog or goat. At least I couldn't be called a homosexual.
If you are a homosexual and want to continue to be one, go ahead. Who gives? Just shut up. The rest of us don't need to be reminded of the dirt that goes with it and the displays. It's a filthy disgraceful lifestyle that should be criminalized again like it was years ago. Only a dirt bag would have anything to do with it, feelings from within or not. We all have feelings about certain things. It doesn't mean we have to act on them and turn into a disgusting hosebag.

Look if you think they're the same thing go have sex with a goat and a dog and a man and tell me if they were the same.

You've misunderstood me or you're just stuck in your own brainwashed mind. I can't ask a dog but I can have within feelings (your term) for the dog just as you say a homosexual can have within feelings for a man. Me having these sick within feelings for a dog or goat is exactly the same as a homosexual having them for another man. In both cases the individual needs professional help. There is something wrong with the physical or mental makeup of the person. The only sane one here is the dog.
Your agrument is icredibly lame and shows a complete lack of intelligence. It has been proven that homosexuality is choice and unnatural etc etc. This country has too many bleeding hearts who can't see past their noses.

Bowser, a dog is different. You can't ask a dog if he wants a sexual relationship with you. They're animals. They operate on different terms. And sit down and talk to my doctor about what? Gay sex? What do you think about lesbians? Heterosexual people can engage in such acts too.

If I tell you I have within feelings for my dog as homosexual would for another man would that be OK with you? Would you not tell me that I need some professional help and that I was making an unnatural choice?
Are you aware of the dangers to the body that homosexuals bring upon themselves? Have you ever spoken to any doctors about it?
Can you sit down and imagine the act itself rather than the lame feelings from within?

My last comment didn't go through,,, being held for some reason

Tell me Bowser, is there one right way of looking at the world? Is there one ideal appearance? Is their one perfect culture, one ideal race? The answer is NO. Sexuality is the same. It comes from within Bowser. Robbing a bank is a product of external forces entirely. Homosexuality is a product of both.

Someone robbing a bank isn't disadvantaging my life either or making me uncomfortable. Speaking of brains, did yours come in a Cracker Jack box? You keep proving me right on being a homosexual is a personal decision. I have thought it all through and I believe it's the vacuum between your ears that does not allow you to do the same. I'm doing my best not to look but I'd have to crawl into a hole to get away from it and the likes of you but I'm not going to do that. I'm going to stick with the people who have the guts to stand up for what is right and in the process perhaps we can save your sorry ass and many more like you. Obviously, you're on a one-way trip to nowhere. Get out of dreamland and smarten up.

Hellllooooo, helloooo, hellooo, the lights are on but nobody home. It's time to wake up and piss, the world's on fire.
