Matt Lauer Divorce: Averted by Savannah Guthrie Announcement!
by Hilton Hater at .Ann Curry is out as co-host of The Today Show, Savannah Guthrie is in and Matt Laurer's marriage is safe.
Wait... what?!?
The National Enquirer claims Lauer's wife, Annette Roque, was very concerned that her husband was pushing for long-time correspondent Natalie Morales to take over the seat next to him every morning, a situation that allegedly would have led to Roque filing for divorce.
Why? Well, take a look at Morales...
"When she heard about Ann getting the boot, the first thing she told Matt was she didn't want him cozying up any closer to Natalie," a tabloid source said of Lauer and Roque.
"In fact, Annette drew a line in the sand and said if he pushed show bosses to make Natalie his new co-host, she'd divorce him."
This isn't the first time that split rumors have sprung up between this couple.
In May 2010, insiders also told the Enquirer that Lauer was having an affair. Nothing came of the story, the marriage remained intact and now, thanks to the hiring of Guthrie, it appears as if the same applies here.

There are different formats for "morning" news shows. If I want pure news, I can watch CNN but even CNN has segments that involve discussions and opinions; they are just more seriously discussed. However, when I wake up and need to focus on the day ahead in my office, I prefer a more light hearted "news" show that has human interest stories in addition to the dreadful news of the day. The cast on the Today Show is always upbeat. The segments are interesting and I have learned things about the psychology of children, mass murderers, break throughs in medications to cure diseases, new ways to take the stigma away from mental illness, how adoption works or doesn't, animals in fear of extinction, how the public really feels about horrible tragedies that have occured such as in Newtown (and I can see the parents of those children today and how they are coping); I basically see journalists that can also entertain and/ also show compassion. They are human. It is a format. Ann Curry is a pure journalist and an excellent one. However, people can be promoted to their greatest inefficiency. She took herself way too seriously in the more light hearted format of the Today Show. I enjoyed her adventures of 5 years ago as I was amazed and impressed that a woman of her age could and would want to jump from planes, etc. I see it now as perhaps a mid-life crisis. The bottom line is, I hate victims and I hate martyrs. We all have a cause. My daughter "accuses' me of being a Feminist. I am a Feminist who does not believe I have to give up my femininity in order to be treated equally. I do take myself seriously because I believe that being "physically stronger or having a different muscle structure" does not set the bar for higher pay and executive positions. I am the CEO of a company that is involved with natural stone. If I am speaking with a customer in a serious meeting, I act appropraitely. If I invite the customer to lunch, I try to insure my customer is comfortable speaking about the things that interest them (often their children or hobbies). I admit that I am somewhat reserved so if my customer tells me they enjoy porn, I will not ask them to tell me more about it but simply change the subject. I don't judge. The point is, there are times to be playful. There are times to be serious. Morning shows that I leave on in the background while I am getting ready for work fall into the first catagory. If I want to listen to an interview with the Dahli Lama, I would do that in the evening when I could give that interview my full attention. I would be late for work if I had to listen to it at 7am. So Matt Laurer is fortunate to be an excellent journalist while also being able to combine that with a spirit of light heartedness that I find pleasant. Lately, I see him trying too hard because he is being held responsible for someone else's mistake(s). The executive producers of the show decide who will be anchors, not Matt, and they expect Matt to magically connect with someone that has a different style. I see Matt trying to accomodate these different styles without imposing himself on others. I saw Ann Curry show complete displeasure at Matt's attempt to "be cute" and her disdain for him became evident when he did not embrace her need to always be sensitive, compassionate, soothing, serious and prudish. Men and woman can be playful without it diminishing either sex. It's been going on since the beginning of time. So I guess I am taking the less popular stand right now since I just googled Matt Lauer and know more about his personal life and struggles with his ratings than I know about my own familys' but I like Matt and I think he needs to fight back. Savanah is young and appeals to young people but those people may be watching reality tv, even at 7am. She needs to stop trying so hard to be taken seriously and allow the intellengence and the "ditsy" part of her play out. Natalie needs to stop trying to prove that she is a wise Mom who needs to caution the world about bad things. Matt is the more experienced person for this position and should be himself. Maybe Al should talk to him. Al has remained neutral, kept his nose clean and is and has always been a very human person.

After 40 years, I have to leave the Today Show. It is so boring now that they have committed to filling the show with a bunch of Stepford Wives who have chemistry with aging Matt Lauer types. It is so boring! Shows with diversity of age and culture and life experience have so much more insight to offer. They only keep Al as a clown. He'll be replaced with a clone soon.
