Gwyneth Paltrow has Tweeted her way into a swirl of controversy.

Gwyneth Paltrow in London

The actress, who is very open about her friendship with Jay-Z and Beyonce, was invited on stage in France this weekend to join the rapper and Kanye West during an encore performance of their popular single, "Niggas in Paris."

But when The Dream snapped the following photo of the actress, her reply set off a firestorm on the blogging site: "Niggas in paris for real," Paltrow wrote.

In response to the backlash over using that word, Paltrow Tweeted on Sunday: "Hold up. It's the title of the song!"

But that wasn't good enough for some.

"Lets be very clear she called a group of black men that have nothing to do with the song 'Ni**as'. Are Kanye and Jay-z in the picture? No. She is specifically calling The Dream and Ty Ty real 'Ni**as In Paris' in that moment," wrote one of Gwyneth's follwers. "There was no need for that. She's the one that connected the two, They have nothing to do with the song."

The Dream, meanwhile, rushed in to Paltrow's defense - "FYI, sorry for the confusion. I typed 'N----- in Paris for real' from Gwen's phone, my bad," he Tweeted. "Please excuse it! We were lit." - and now HE is facing backlash.

One fan accused the producer of rushing in to "save that white princess."

What do you think? Did Paltrow do anything wrong here?

Frogmore, I agree with you. JAWNY keep that ignorant canadian mouth shut.

Gwyneth Paltrow should stick try listening to her husbands music. It sounds more better than that trash J-Z AND kANYE call music. I used to like rap music 10 years ago, now its all gone to big egos and hot air. How can you use the word nigger and have friends that are white. It just makes them feel bad. It confuses people. There are still some bad racist people out there, but then theres also the good ones that want to change and have peace. We should just stop supporting these artists or people that use these racist names from the past. Not forgiving is just as harmful as being racist. The people to balme here are the artist and not Gwyneth. So inmature.J-Z is a father now, he should grow up at least.

@nigga: You are so ignorant its so stupid what you say. You are one of those few rotton apples in society that still want racism and division to prevail. The word "niggar" is NOT PART OF WHO WE AFRICAN AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE! IT was a word that was made out of ignorance and evil. iF YOU STILL WANT TO PUT THAT WORD FOR YOURSELF THATS FINE, BUT DONT DEFINE ALL AFRICAN AMERICANS LIKE THAT! The past is DEAD, GET OVER IT! It is a horrible word and you are really pathetic to be using it so proudly. Get over yourself. We are all one family in this world, irrespective of RACE,COLOUR OR COUNTRY.

OMG who gives a shit niggas. Its a f word. You ppl gonna cry now? So sick of all the same shit and same complaints. You I use the word when I ge mad at someone, dont care what color they are. Hey ,black ppl to stop it already cause its getting annoying. Freedom of speech, u dont like it too bad.

I wouldn't care if Ms Paltrow was best friends with president Obama. She will NEVER get a pass to use that word! And her friendship with arguably one of the most powerful and influential African-American couples in entertainment, doesnot give her that pass!Even Eminem,a platinum selling "caucasian" rapper, knows where to draw the line in keeping it real. She was not referencing the song, she was refering to the men on stage at that time. She is certainly a savvy enough tweeter, to convey her enthusiasm for the performance, without using that word.Gwenyth Paltrow your Ghetto pass IS DENIED!!!!!!

You niggas are crazy... who cares!! has anyone stop to wonder how ridiculous it sounds to be upset over someone saying the nigga while on stage of an actual performance of niggas in paris?? who gives a fuck!! it is soooo many more important issues in the world than determining if Gweneth Paltrow is racist or not. you think the thousands of white/black/red/blue/orange people in the audience say "I love that song N-word in paris"!?!?!....fuck outta here. if you're ignorant enough to believe that, you're just as much of a problem than the people who say the word "nigger" in a negative way. hushing a word under the rug is NOT going to erase history. nigga is in our culture, like it or not. jumping to extreme conclusions whenever the word is used, is hurting racism, not helping.

this is the best part. They made a Paltrow app

jay-z and Kanye make me cringe with embarassment. They have no self respect. I certainly hope other countries do not think these horrible, classless, bozos represent the Black race. I detest the "N" word and do not tolerate it's usage in my presence. Gwyneth Paltrow was just trying to be cool. She had to learn the hard way you can't repeat everything you hear.

jawny - Using the "n" word and the "f" word don't make us old farts. It shows we have intelligence and class. If one has to use those words to be relevant, it just shows they have nothing else to pin relevancy on. Get an education and a job, and you'll have that to be relevant with.

I don't think anyone should use that word and can't understand why blacks do so prolifically. It's negative slang; so why would someone call one of their own that??? As for Gwyneth, the way she used it was not as in the title of the song, and she should know better. Until blacks stop using that word altogether, they have to expect others to use it too. If you don't want to hear it, don't use it yourself.

Gwyneth Paltrow Quotes

I've learned more about myself being married than anything else. I hate to say, "We've got it worked out," because you never know what's going to happen, but we laugh, we're good friends, we like to do the same stuff.

Gwyneth Paltrow

It's hard being married. You go through great times, you go through terrible times. We're the same as any couple.
