The Voice Recap: Semifinal Surprises?

by at . Comments

The remaining eight contestants on The Voice – two from each coach's team – gave what could be their final performances during Monday's semifinals.

With the season finale set for next Tuesday night, audience votes plus scores from their respective coaches will determine which four singers advance.

Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green will have a chance to weight their hopefuls' chances tonight. Who will they favor?

From Team Blake, Erin Willett became overwhelmed with emotion after a powerful performance of David Guetta's current radio hit, "Without You."

"I just emotionally kind of got lost," a tearful Erin, who lost her dad during the competition, revealed to MC Carson Daly after the stirring performance.

"I would give anything to have a tenth of the talent that you have," said Shelton, in what may be his highest praise. "Your singing is unbelievable."

Shelton, whose own father passed away in January, added: "But more than that, Erin, I'd give anything to have the strength that you have."

"I know what that song means to you," the country star added. "It means the same thing to me right now also. And you held it together."

Still, it was Team Blake's other semifinalist, Jermaine Paul, whom Shelton described as the "frontrunner" after a heartfelt take on Journey's "Open Arms."

"Jermaine is the guy," Shelton told his protégé. "Every time you get on stage, you separate yourself a little bit more from the rest of the pack."

Adam Levine begged to differ.

He told Team Cee Lo's Juliet Simms, who closed out the night with James Brown's "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," simply "You're the one to beat."

Aguilera, on the other hand, had high praise for Team Adam's Katrina Parker. "I just encourage Adam to really look at you," she told Parker.

Her version of The Fugees' "Killing Me Softly" will guarantee that.

"I know that probably the obvious, predictable choice for Adam would be to be swayed towards [his other finalist, Tony Lucca]," she said.

"But I'm telling you, take a look at Katrina Parker because she's a star."

Aguilera, who donned a tiara for the evening for some reason, really does not favor her one-time fellow Mousketeer Lucca for some reason.

The singer was also enthusiastic about her own protégés, Chris Mann and Lindsay Pavao, of course. It's anyone's guess who she'll pick.

America's votes and the coaches' points will be awarded tonight, narrowing The Voice field to four. Who do you think will make the finals?

I love the Voice! I'm torn between Lindsay and Juliet, both are amazing!!!

lindsey like phillip? i think not- good grief lindsey is like a fairy nymph singing in the woods...i've already bought all of phillips idol songs on iTunes- can not wait for his first album whether he wins or not! after 11 seasons phillip is the only competitor that has motivated this 48 year old to vote every week!

so agree with you nc- i've been watching both shows all along and i find the voice unbelievably disappointing. besides all the corny gimmicks (rotating chairs, boxing rings, battles...the whole concept of having teams eliminates better people from poor ones when they have to keep equal # of singers) i could care less about these judges and their banter with each other- adam seems like a douche, blake adds nothing, christina is a twit and ceelo is just creepy. would not buy any music from these final 8 yet on idol the any of their final 8 could win the whole thing. gotta admit idol has the best competitors of any of the singing shows this year!

Jermaine, Joshua Ledet from Idol...dime a dozen. Erin and the other big girl....dime a dozen. Lindsay is like Phil Phillips...her own style, her own voice. She is original. The others have nothing new to bring to the world of music. These shows shouldn't be about finding MORE talent ...but new and unique talent.

The Voice is a major disappointment this year. Not only did they start with a pretty low level of talent, but the "coaches" have systematically eliminated everyone who had even a shred. Not a single one of the singers on The Voice can carry water for any of the American Idol singers this year. Plus, watching the coaches snark at each other (except for Cee Lo who is always cool)is painfully un-entertaining.

It's kind of hilarious! I've never fit into an E-cup before. I look at my husband and go, 'Guess what size this bra is?' And when I tell him, he's just amazed. We keep the tags that prove it, to look back for memory's sake!

Oh, my God, candy! I had a huge craving for candy toward the end of the pregnancy, from Starbursts to Skittles. I actually took a picture of myself with my big belly in a little lingerie top, surrounded by bowls of the candy I like
