The Great Gatsby Trailer: Leonardo DiCaprio Takes on a Classic

by at . Comments

The first trailer for The Great Gatsby has been released, showcasing Leonardo DiCaprio as the title character in the latest adaptation of the classic novel.

Baz Luhrmann’s 3D take on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s book (yes, it's in 3D) makes the '20s period film even more of a visual marvel than one would expect.

Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher also star in The Great Gatsby. The bad news? The flick opens nationwide on December 25.

The good news? This trailer should more than hold you over:

The trailer was hideous. Again Luhrmann has turned a classic into a lurid, three-ring circus. DiCaprio looks constipated, Mulligan comes off insipid, and Maguire seems miscast. The Robert Redford-Mia Farrow version was true to Fitzgerald's masterpiece, whereas this version is meant to make the story more palatable to younger movie-goers. I guess for this reason we should be gleeful. What a waste of talent and money.

Love the book and original movie. Can't wait for this one but I think it doesn't really need to be in 3D. It's not an action film.

What is it with all this 3-D bullshit?! That alone will make me wait to watch it on HBO, Starz, or Showtime.
