Obama Divorce Story: New Book Claims Michelle Nearly Left Barack in 2000

by at . Comments

The controversial new biography of President Barack Obama claims that his wife, Michelle Obama, planned to leave the future president in 2000.

Is the divorce story real? Is anything in the book?

The unauthorized biography, which Klein claims is based on nearly 200 interviews, has been dismissed by presidential spokesperson Eric Schultz.

"Ed Klein has a proven history of reckless fabrication in order to sell books," he said. "Nobody in their right mind would believe the nonsense in this one."

Nevertheless, the Obama divorce story is the latest revelation in the book - which also discusses his ex Genevieve Cook - to generate major buzz.

In The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House, out this week, Klein claims the divorce nearly happened eight years into the Obamas' marriage.

After Obama failed to listen to his wife's warnings in challenging Bobby Rush for his U.S. House seat in 2000 and got creamed, their relationship cooled.

“During the dark days that followed his defeat, he turned to Michelle for comfort. But she was in no mood for sympathy," Klein reportedly writes.

"He had refused to listen to her warnings about taking on Rush."

The primary left them in debt and Barack depressed, Klein claims. “Michelle actually had divorce papers drawn up,” he writes, citing one of her friends.

“Obama was so depressed that some of his friends worried that he was suicidal,” the book adds, without elaboration on that particular point.

Obama, of course, was still in the Illinois State Senate, and went on to win a U.S. Senate seat in 2004 that helped establish his national credentials.

But Michelle almost vetoed the Senate race, too.

Northwestern University professor Steven Rogers told Klein that Obama talked about his ambition after they met at a golf fund-raiser.

“My wife will not allow me to run for the Senate until I clear up the debts from my unsuccessful run for Congress,” Obama said, according to Rogers.

This is just an advertisement to sell more copies of a book being released 6 months before the election. It is a money grab and I am skeptical that the author has the facts. I wouldn't be surprised if he had ties to the Republican or Tea Parties. Anyway, anyone who has been married knows that there are ups and downs, and times you don't want to be together. That said, I find it hard to believe that the Obamas considered divorce at a time when they had a toddler in the house. Plus, the youngest was born in 2001, meaning Mrs. Obama was pregnant in 2000. How do you go from the brink of divorce to bringing another child into this world?

Oh, yeah? There's nothing as "low down" as the liberal attacks against Sarah Palin and her family, especially by Bill Maher! The use of the "c-word" has never been used to my knowledge against the First Lady! I find it disgusting how the lib-turds trashed George W. Bush in horrid ways well beyond the pale, so to speak and let's not forget the attacks on Ann Romney. Sorry, but this is a sermon the Liberals have any right to preach! And it'll only get worse as Nov. 6th approaches.

I am amazed at the lengths that the right wing will go thru to discredit Obama. They can't find anything else so they have resorted to an all time low of attacking his Wife. All marriages go thru problems I have been married for twenty years we have faced our share of ups and downs why should it be any different for Obama he is human like all the rest of us. Being the Commander in Chief does not make him exempt to LIFE HAPPENING BEFORE OR AFTER BEING IN THE OVAL OFFICE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why couldn't she have said, "No, Barack! You're not running in 2008! And I mean it!"?
