Manny Pacquiao on Obama Gay Marriage Stance: An Immoral Abomination

by at . Comments

Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is pointedly criticizing President Barack Obama's recent endorsement of gay marriage, calling it offensive to his religion.

In an interview, the religious Pacquiao said that Obama's view was nothing more than a direct attack on the morals of society and the will of God.

"God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they so are in love with each other," Manny Pacquiao said.

"It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of old," he added, citing the Bible.

He described same-sex marriage as an "abomination" and went on to say that America should be the model of morality for other countries to emulate.

Recently voted Forbes' fourth most influential athlete, the World Boxing Organization welterweight champion is regarded by many as the best pound-for-pound boxer on the planet, and already has a burgeoning career out of the ring.

He is a member of the Philippines legislature, hosts a weekly TV game show and has his own vegetable business. Manny Pacquiao also hopes to become a leading Christian evangelist after having a religious "awakening."

Last week, Obama became the first U.S. president to publicly back gay marriage.

Many politicians, pundits and stars have weighed in - Jay-Z praised Obama Monday, while Bristol Palin ripped him last week - but members of the sporting community have been largely silent until Pacquiao's condemnation.

Your take: Same-sex marriage ...

I just want to bring to everyone's attention...there is no where in the Bible where it talks of one man and one woman marrying for love. In fact Abraham had 4 wives. Many times woman were given to men as wives for money and ox. Woman are viewed as property in the Bible. There is no mention of marriage with love. The only book that talks of passion and love is the Book of Songs. Secondly, the main sin in Sodom and Gomorrah was not that they were gay and promiscous. "In one striking passage, Mr. Stearns quotes the prophet Ezekiel as saying that the great sin of the people of Sodom wasn’t so much that they were promiscuous or gay as that they were “arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. (Ezekiel 16:49.)" Please, if you are going to quote the bible for your argument, know the facts....thank you.

It's funny how people keep talking about the sacredness of marriage. In the meantime atheists and agnostics get married all the time. Criminals get married. People on death row get married. There are reams of celebrities who get married for a hot minute like a Kardashian. There are people who get married drunk in Vegas. There are people who do it multiple times & people who cheat from the get go. There are people who kill themselves & their 'sacred' spouse when the spouse wants to leave. There are people who constantly beat up their spouse. There's a female teacher who got married to the man she molested as a child. But somehow Marriage is oh so sacred and it would be ruined by gay people. When this enters the history books, this will be considered a time when people were really foolish & prejudiced against gay people due to their own fears and their inferiority complex.

LOL at you people pointing to "homosexual" animals - ever had a dog hump your leg? They don't know what the hell they're doing - your argument is beyond invalid. That said, I have no problem with gay marriage (and the demand for it will always be very very small anyway, so...) Live and let live, and that has to go for Manny the boxer, too, you know, sorry.

Do tell. How would gays being allowed to marry affect you? Unless you're gay of course. Ooooh. So a word is no longer solely affiliated with the church. Oh my. How absolutely terrible! "how am I going to explain this to my kids??? Ah the horror." Ma'am, fuck you. You figure that out. Your fucking religion should stay out of OUR government. It just shouldn't be there. Religion and morality are two different things that don't mutually exist. You can have morality without religion. You can have government without religion. Equalizing rights for ALL human beings is what matters. Not if I'm going to offend you by marrying another woman. Frankly, if you're offended by my actions, I enjoy it. Why? Because it showcases exactly how narrow minded and ridiculous you really are.

To me, that boxing dude Manny Pacquiao looks like a mass murderer. Yikes.

Exactly, Christians should not need to follow or go along with non Christian beliefs... Good point !

Your religious beliefs do not coincide with mine and I shouldn't be forced to live under what one religion deems is correct. Some of you crazed Bible thumpers are the most hypocritical assholes out there. Preaching one thing and going off to do something else. Sanctity of marriage my coot. Two dudes getting married doesn't affect you. You wanna talk sanctity? Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears and how many countless political figures have gotten divorces or cheated on spouses. Religion what? Fuck your agenda.
