Gotye Trashes Glee Cover as "Dinky, Wrong, Dry"

by at . Comments

Gotye has been everywhere over the last few weeks.

He performed on Saturday Night Live. His breakout single, "Somebody That I Used to Know" was covered on American Idol and Glee.

And while the artist is clearly thrilled with his success - "I wrote the song and everything else has been a series of surprises," Gotye tells Great Britain's The Sunday Mail - he isn't enthralled with how the Fox comedy tackled his track.

"They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals but the vocals were that pop Glee style, ultra dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense, like it's playing to you from a cardboard box," the artist said of the above cover by Darren Criss and Matt Bomer.

Talking to The Sunday Herald Sun, Gotye added the Glee version made his song "sound dinky and wrong."

Ouch! You tell us: is Gotye's assessment accurate? Or should be be grateful to Glee for giving the single such exposure?

Neither the original nor Glee version impressed me as much as the band Walk Off the Earth's version...which is actually amazing! If you haven't seen it, check it out on YouTube. Just saying...

Since he wrote the song i understand that he feels a little jealous about it. of course it would be better for him just to shut up and be happy about the exposure...i actually think it's a pretty creepy song& don't understand why people like it so much. he sounds just a bit too obsessed wth his ex

I'm Australian and that song has been EVERYWHERE for months. I HATE it! In fact the only time I've ever liked it is when I saw it on Glee. Goyte is not a representative of most Australians! He should be happy to get such exposure as it is notoriously difficult for Australians to break into the US music market. I'm embarrassed for him.

I heard gotyes song before i watched tht glee episode.. And i prefer gleed version i think goytes version is rubbish, tone deaf, slow, creepy. At least make it better and listenable.. I hbe glees version on my phone xxxxxx

This song is a nr 1 hit in Europe for the last nine months. So yes it's very successfull...

I like the "Glee"-version better, I even have that one on my ipod instead of the original. maybe he`s just jealous that they did such a good job covering his song ;-)

its glee!!! what did he expect a fucking master piece?? and Michelle : that song was already successful, hence glee jumping on the bandwagon to cover it. and of course leave it pathetic glee to come in completely bomb this killer tune.

I prefer the Glee version......

I thought that the Glee cover was awesome!!! Besides...I had never heard the song until I heard it on Glee!! I wonder...would the song have been as successfull as it is without them covering it? :)
