American Idol Top 7 Recap: Who Was the Best?

by at . Comments

The American Idol Top Seven performed songs from the last three years last night, and drew mostly praise from the three judges for their contemporary covers.

A couple of singers were still a bit underwhelming, though, making for what should be an interesting, unpredictable results show Thursday evening.

How did Skylar Laine, Colton Dixon, Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh, Phillip Phillips and Elise Testone do? Let's find out ...

Elise Testone has been a bottom three mainstay, but the judges are rooting for her after a rousing performance of Lady Gaga's "You and I."

How hard are they pulling for her?

"That was the perfect song for you," said Randy Jackson, who declared Elise "back" and urged voters to finally recognize her talent. So pretty hard.

Skylar Laine opened the show with Kellie Pickler's "Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You," earning praise for per perfect pitch throughout.

Randy said, "You're going to have a hit with a song like that."

Phillip Phillips was one of two contestants whose marks weren't stellar. J. Lo was un-wowed by his take on Maroon 5's "Give a Little More."

"It wasn't everything that I know that you can give us," she says. Randy agreed: "I don't know if it was that 'wow' kind of a moment."

Colton Dixon said preparing a soulful version of "Love the Way You Lie" was his toughest task to date, but according to Steven Tyler, he nailed it.

"You are such a rare talent," the rocker said. "You could have recorded that right now." It was one of the more unique covers of the night.

Jessica Sanchez sang Jazmine Sullivan's "Stuttering" and set the bar high. "You sing like nobody we've ever heard sing," Jennifer said.

That's high praise, and should be enough to carry her on.

Joshua Ledet danced and sang a high-energy version of Bruno Mars's "Runaway Baby," which earned a standing ovation from the judges.

Jennifer praised him for effort, which she said was "so dynamic, it takes control of the audience, it's so much energy. It's not just the vocals."

Hollie Cavanagh's G-rated performance of Pink's "F––kin' Perfect" was lacking and may leave her singing a farewell song tonight, sadly.

"It wasn't perfect but it was a lot better than it was last week," Randy said, doing his best to console her. "You got to be proud of that."

Colton went home too early, I guess this should how it will go from now on... 1. Jessica
2. Hollie
3. Phillip
4. Skylar
5. Elise
6. Joshua Either Jessica or Hollie wins I'm very happy with that, but I would be so sad if Joshua makes it to the finals. I don't hate him but I think he sings like a girl so much...

If this is truly a singing contest, Joshua Ledet should win. I guess it is just hard for some to face the TRUTH.

The judges were fair for saving Jessica Sanchez. She was the best singer of that bunch. It was worth saving her because she's a great singer.

Jessica sure is Pilipino by blood but she is as pure as any person claiming to be an american, this country belongs to everyone who deserve to be here and i am sure Jessica's family has come a long way of deserving Pilipino's american who pay taxes for those american's that are in welfare and too lazy to work. Go Jessica sing it all out you are the new voice of amazing WHITNEY HOUSTON,,,,

I thing Jessica is the best, amazing talent her voice is so wonderful
she deserved to be saved.

Its call AMERICA- The Melting Pot-- Everyione came form SOMEWHERE-
EVER REDNECKS!!!! Like Randy said Pick who is the BEST!!

I am proud to be an american being a naturalized american citizen. Jessica was born in San Diego, CA. She is a naturally born American, therefore a true American. For somebody to say she is not a true american is out of her mind. Go back to your roots and you will find out that your forefathers were immigrants like some of us. With your narrow-minded definition the true americans are only the Native Americans and that will leave most of us without any rights in this wonderful country. Let us focus more on the talents and get away from racial and discriminatory attitude!!

I think Hollie should have gone. With Joshua & Jessica in the bottom three - it would appear that voting may be racially motivated and that is a shame. We as Americans are supposed to be voting on TALENT and HANDS DOWN JESSICA & JOSHUA HAVE THE TALENT!!!!!! Coulton is next and then Skylar. Phil Phillips is unique and maybe too edgy for American voters. Hollie is too wooden and Elyse is good but not that good. American voters need to get it right. We have missed in the past - Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry for example. I think there are too many voting just to skew the votes for kicks and are not sincere. The show should change it format so that the judges have the FINAL SAY ON WHO GOES IN THE BOTTOM THREE!!

i think that joshua needs to go. my rank is: 1. Jessica
2. Elise
3. Hollie
4. Skyler
5. Phillip
6. Colton
7. Joshua

ITS SHOULD BE SKYLAR AND HOLLIE...WHAT ARE THESE GIRLS DOING??...they know themselves that they should be booted out anytime...but they hanging on there because of there fans????....for what????...they are talented...but it should be enough for them having exposure in american idol to get some producers to get them into NASHVILLE...they are good for country music...but not all people love to listen to country music all I can say they should go home and not having to pray to stay for the next week....if they still win...something is fishy going on with the voting...SERIOUSLY!!!
