Rosie O'Donnell Show Cancelled By OWN, Described as "F--king Hellhole" By Staff

by at . Comments

Now that it's been cancelled, staffers from Rosie O'Donnell's ill-fated OWN talk show are coming forward with some great quotes about why it was canned.

“It was such a f**king hellhole,” one former staffer told The Daily Beast.

The reason for that? O'Donnell's frequent, temperamental clashes with The Rosie Show staff. During a taping last fall, "O’Donnell uncontrollably yelled at a publicist backstage because she didn’t like the parameters agreed upon for an interview."

Several staffers were also very upset "when O’Donnell clashed with Oprah Winfrey’s longtime director Joe Terry. People thought she humiliated him when she scolded him in front of a live audience for using the wrong camera shots."

Rosie "suggested he didn’t know what he was doing. She fired Winfrey’s stage manager because she felt he was ignoring her and not doing his job properly."

She was also unhappy with her band leader, Katreese Barnes, a two-time Emmy winner from SNL, as he couldn’t play obscure Broadway songs off the cuff.

And, in what is seen as a final insult to the staff, on Friday, when Rosie's cancellation was publicly announced with a glowing statement by Oprah Winfrey herself, Rosie was not in Chicago to personally break the news to her crew.

Instead, she was Tweeting about what a great time she was having in NYC.

I thought something was up when Rosie was taking all that time off. I was liking the oneonone, but that wasn't a success so it seems. I like Rosie, but I know she can be difficult. She is very smart. O's staff seemed difficult to get along with. I recall in the beginning of the show, R seemed to do whatever they asked of her just to please them. They really are a young crowd. The ugly outfits they wanted her to wear. Yikes!! I hope things work out between her and her fiance Michelle. They seem very different imho. I sometimes wonder if Michelle is an opportunist. Who knows.

To say that Rosie's recently cancelled talk show was ill-fated is a total understatement!!! What in the HELL was Oprah (who's none too swift herself these days) thinking????? Back in the day, I was a fan of Rosie's when she had her own talk show in the 1990's. But, after a while, I quit watching it when she verbally attacked Tom Selleck (on her own show!!!) because of that NRA thing. I think that she started to sadly unravel soon after that. Also, that's why I quit watching "The View"...because of Rosie's awful antics. I hear that Rosie is friends with someone as long as they agree with her 24/7. But, the BULLY in Rosie comes out whenever anyone disagrees with her!!! Rosie is unable to have a mature relationship with ANY WOMAN because Rosie is WAY TOO controlling, possessive and suffocating!!! And, I hear that even Rosie's own kids live in fear of her!!! Rosie, do ALL OF US a favor...RETIRE ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!

I love Rosie. I will miss her show!!!!!! It hurts to read all the negative BS about the show. I mean really mean can you get.......she has family...why would you write such crap. Rosie if you're reading, looking forward to watching you again.....Rock on Sister friend.

PART 2 (CONT'D): found Rosie to be a skillful interviewer. As such, I regret that this did not work for her. I was truly inspired by each of the interviews I watched her conduct on her One-on-One shows on OWN. I think that Rosie, like Roseanne, is brilliant and immensely talented and misunderstood women. They both seem loyal to their ethics and unfazed (that's the correct spelling!) by the tendency of celebrities to be disingenuous, play by the rules and suck up and, for that, they've developed many enemies but I admire their willingness to be true to themselves.

When Rosie was in her late teens, I saw her perform live at NJ's Rascal's Comedy Club. She was skinny, not out of the closet and not crude and her performance was brilliant. While I often find her political views offensive, I always find her genuine. Yet, the reports indicate that I am wrong, that, behind the scenes, she's abrasively demanding. It's been a great many decades since I was an Oprah fan and, as such, I have only occasionally watched Rosie's 'One-on-One'. Every one that I viewed impressed me and I SEE PART 2

I agree with Lily from several posts up. Cancelling the show probably saved staff from having nervous breakdowns. I've been around rage. It's best to get away from tornados and let them spin themselves out. So many people remember the "happy" Rosie. Her first talk show reminded me of the silliness of Ellen. But not quite....Ellen makes me smile :) I enjoyed Rosie's magazine, too. I had Rosie and O subscriptions, back when O had focus. I wonder how much of her anger is fron her wife divorcing her?

I knew that wouldn't last long. Oprah has soooooooo much more class!!

Who other than Oprah Winfrey did not see this coming? Remember "Rosie," the magazine she drove into the ground after a year? Same story there. She was an arrogant, paranoid b**** who thought she knew all there was to know. Just another failure from this mean and spiteful nut job. Anyone foolish enough to invest good money on a project with her deserves to lose it.

Rosie has always seemed to have a gigantic chip on her shoulder when she does interviews.

I liked Rosie on her Rosie Show back in the day. However, there are certain issues that seem to set her off. Trust me; Oprah Winfrey would not have cancelled her show if she thought things would get better. We all have heard how Rosie treats people. Remember; all these people then Rosie. All these people can't be lying on her when they don't even know each other. She has some issues & Oprah just couldn't take that chance with her any longer. Rosie should learn from this as she was cut from The View. If she doesn't learn from any of this then she has some real issues that she needs to address. Good luck Rosie!
