Cissy Houston on Daughter's Death: Nothing I Could Do

by at . Comments

For the first time since the death of her daughter, Cissy Houston has spoken out.

In an interview that will air Monday on New Jersey's My9's 10 O'Clock News, Cissy Houston says she still has her "moments" of mourning since Whitney passed away in February.

"I'm not there yet. I don't think I'm any more courageous than anyone else. I am a true believer in God, if I could bring her back I would, but that's not possible."

News broke yesterday that cocaine was found in Whitney's hotel room, following coroner confirmation that the singer died with that drug in her system.

The artist's substance abuse problems have been well documented, of course, but Cissy says she can't hold herself responsible for these issues, not after so many years of attempting to intervene.

"I know I did the best I could," she says. "I don’t blame myself. I know I did the best I could for everything."

While avoiding any public statements until now, Cissy has reportedly been critical of her former son-in-law, Bobby Brown, and has been looking over her granddaughter, Bobbi Kristina. She's now the most direct link Cissy has to Whitney.

"I'm very proud of my daughter," she says in the interview. "She accomplished a whole lot in the short time that she had here... she was a very wonderful person."

Hey I don't know this person but sorry for her I meat she was the best woman I bet sorry for lose

Ms. Cissy Houston is correct when she says there was nothing more she could do in trying to save her daughter. However, it's important to note that she always loved Whitney no matter what. Addicts are the most misunderstood people in the world, and that's because addicts do not understand themselves. Loved ones and family members can try to get them the help they need, but if the addict is unwilling then it becomes a one-sided battle. Whitney suffered greatly because of her disease and no doubt broke the hearts of those who loved her. Lets us pray for her soul's rest and her family's healing.

@SAD. that was glad that their still sane and compassionate people in the world. I feel the well as all the others in this world that struggle with addiction.bless you.

People come out of it completely you know. But they will be very easy targets to those who don't want them around, if you know what i mean. It's so easy to get rid of them coz the world would obviously think they destroyed themselves.
Ms Cissy Houston - i admire your courage and i can imagine your huge loss. May God grant to you the extra strength. But with all do respect i know you mean well but the way you said it sounds like 'i know i did my best but she still went on with it'. I don't know why i am sure but i am sure Whitney Houston has not been using drugs for the past 3 years. Pls Cissy you should know that. Don't doubt your daughter.
RIP WH & MJ. The Queen and King of Music. The most talented and amazing personalities, but at the same time the most abused, misunderstood, and mistreated people ever!!!

Americans take everything for granted nothing which is serious to them, they disgust me a lot

Dear Emily (Cissy) you miss your baby girl and I wish I could take your pain away. Whitney was your pride and joy. when I want to look at the both of you together performing I play the song from Chess. Be at peace and never forget the love.

Mother and daughter are dealing with a huge loss. I know what addiction can do to a family. I will continue to pray for the entire family. Ms. Cissy may you find comfort in knowing you did all you could for your daughter. The paths we take as adults are our own choices and Whitney with whatever issues she suffered with was a great woman.

I would say Bobbi deserves a lot of sympathy. Cissy suffered a lot as a mother, but Bobbi suffered probably more as a daughter, growing up in a dysfunctional home with two drug addicted parents. And even after losing a mother, the poor girl barely has a father to fall back on because he honestly does not seem to care much for her.

This Mother is where all the sympathy should go. She had been watching this nightmare addiction from the beginning. She saw and she tried to intercept the self destruction that was displayed and the shit that migrated to her daughter. I've seen it - up close! This is the woman that has suffered!
