Whitney Houston Dead at 48

by at . Comments

Whitney Houston, one of the most successful female artists of all-time, died at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel today. She was 48.

The singer's rep confirmed the news this evening to The Associate Press, with insiders saying a member of Houston's entourage discovered her body late in the afternoon; a hotel employee called 911; and paramedics arrived to find Whitney unresponsive.

She was pronounced dead at 3:55 local time.

Beverly Hill Police Lt. Mark Rosen said there was "no obvious signs of criminal intent," though no cause of death has been determined and detectives have already started a full investigation.

R.I.P. Whitney Houston

Houston leaves behind a daughter, Bobbi Kristina.

The two-time Emmy and six-time Grammy Award winner sold over 200 million albums worldwide. She had battled alcohol and drug addiction - last seeking treatment in early 2011 - for many years prior to her death and was spotted out twice in Los Angeles over the last week, first with occasional boyfriend Ray J and then with a pal on Thursday night.

Whitney was staying at the hotel in anticipation of Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party, which was scheduled to take place there that night.

Our thoughts go out to her loved ones and, in her honor, we present the greatest national anthem performance in professional sports history:

Feelings of saddness, loss and speechless abound at the loss of Ms. Houston. Did she know that her gift of song touched the world 's soul. What did we give her in return? Up through her death... arguing, wisecracks and misinformation from her "fans". Whitney, rest songbird. We will see you again..but not yet.

@nancy, we are in agreement for our love of whitney. where we disagree is that it is documented fact that the black community made whitney feel as though she was not "one of them" early in her career because she came across to blacks as "too white". whitney admitted thatt his upset her and had a negative effect on her. soon after she started her ghetto behavior with bobby brown. i adored whitney and was horrified. i remember waiting for her christmas album to be released. when i heard it i was shocked at how bad it was. knowing whitney was a true christian, all i could think was how out of control the drugs had become, because that album was horrible.

@truth..........you are completely twisting the words that you heard on the biography of Houston (I saw the same show). What was said is that her career began as gospel & R&B.......but when she started getting record deals, she switched to Pop (not really a choice she made) & the black community wanted to hear MORE of her R&B. This had absolutely NOTHING to do w/ who she dated, married, choices regarding drugs etc. You are an idiot because you hear what you want to hear (completely out of context). I'm personally horrified about this....not shocked, as we knew of the drugs....but still horified as there has NEVER been a person w/ a voice as beautiful as Whitney's and I don't think there ever will be. What a great loss to the world.

I'm so sadden by the death of Whitney Houston, it hurts to see such a great person taken away from us. I grew up listening to her music (I wanna dance with somebody) was one of my favorites. My prayer goes out to her family. It's sad that she was involved with a person that destroyed her life with drugs. He got her hooked and she couldn't shake it off. I'm just lost for words. I can't believe such a beautiful person has lost her life. May she rest in peace. Gone but never forgotten!

So very sad to lose such a god given talent she touched so many peoples lives mine included,I named my youngest daughter after her. It is such a loss for her daughter. Unfortunately we will never know what even more she could have achieved. I myself am a recovering alcoholic almost 6 yrs sober, so I know the disease can destroy one's self . R.I.P. your in God's arms
