President Obama Sings "Sweet Home Chicago" With B.B. King, Mick Jagger

by at . Comments

Whenever he leaves office, President Barack Obama may have a found a new career. Who would have guessed his reelection strategy would involve more singing?

Last month, the Commander-in-Chief sang Al Green at Harlem's Apollo Theater. Then last night, he shared the stage with Mick Jagger, B.B. King and Jeff Beck.

The all-star musical lineup performed in the East Room of the White House, with the President joining in for an ensemble rendition of "Sweet Home Chicago" ...

The full version of In Performance at the White House: Red, White and Blues is set to air on local PBS stations on next Monday, February 27, at 9 p.m. ET.

For most of the evening, Barack and Michelle Obama took in the concert from the audience, swaying in their seats and occasionally getting up to dance.

But after some prodding from Buddy Guy, who referenced Obama's Apollo performance and told him, "You gotta keep it up," the President took the stage.

Taking the microphone offered by Rolling Stones frontman Jagger, Obama sang a few bars - again, surprisingly well - and handed the mic off to B.B. King.

"This music speaks to something universal," Obama said, as quoted by the AP.

"No one goes through life without both joy and pain, triumph and sorrow. The blues gets all of that, sometimes with just one lyric or one note."

@Jackie...I am and have always been Sneakerbean. Believe me...it's enough of a job and thus, my plate is full with my own unique identity. Not sure why you'd get that feeling, but no. Besides, Reed has a bantering skill and wit I could never match though I do enjoy reading his postings.

Sneakerbean you sound alot like Reed.

A further thought: Ancient historians tells us that Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Now? We see Obama singing while the USA sinks into a devastating eclipse....no longer the Super Power respected around the world with the top economy and sporting a down-graded credit rating, not to mention a crippling debt--which HE made so much worse in only 3 yrs--and intends to heap on even more through his budget plans. It only goes to show when humanity fails to learn the lessons from the past, sadly, history repeats itself.

Wouldn't it be great if the "Crooner-in-Chief"...could make a record of his personal favorites and sell the dvds to help pay for his entitlement programs? You know, kinda ease the burden on us taxpayers a bit? Oh! And maybe the El Presidente could talk Attorney General Holder into "singing" about what honestly happened and how much and how soon he knew about Operation Fast n Furious...now THAT'S a tune I'd like to hear and I'm sure the Congressional Committee members would, too, especially Issa. With Obama's suck-o record of the past three yrs..I suppose now he's decided he's gotta sing for his supper....to garner another "four" in the WH!

And the media CRUCIFIED George Bush for two steppin I think? And this joke not only is destroying American he sings while he does it. HMMMMM kinda reminds me on Nero.

Assuming that we can all agree - Obama did inherit a mess! Just as Regan did in 1980. Yes- he misjudged the time line on how quickly it could be repaired- FINE! So what has he done to repair & what is his over all game plan. This guy did nothing more than spend money in his 1st 2 years. A dept that is unreal. He has visions of " across the board " Healthcare that is unpopular to say the least. He thinks that producing $14 an hour jobs building roads & Bridges is some sort of success story. I doubt the College Grads with "Sheep Skins" in hand wanted to have an Orange Vest & Detour Flag in mind when they spent countless hours studying for an exam.
The more this Country needs help- the more he slides into a corner. Rubbing elbows with Brad Pitt- Johnny Depp- Mick Jagger. I have never seen this behavior in my life from a US President whose Country is in Chaos.

@Anne...put down the Kool-aid...and wipe the drool from the corner of your mouth! This man has put us into more debt that George W. did in 8 yrs...he personifies the radical socialist left..who wants us to look like western Europe soon--especially Greece if he can add to the debt a trillion or two more. He is the master of political cronyism...doling out big profits to Warren Buffet and George Soros....and throwing our taxpayer money at failing green energy companies. He is not respected around the world..he's gutting our military at a time when our foes are seeing us as vulnerable and Iran is developing a nuclear weapon! Shredding the US Constitution and our civil liberties....Tell me, what planet do you honestly live on?????

@Leo...I'm banking the CBO knows what they are talking about...there's going to be a down turn this year...unemployment is going to rise again...throw in higher oil prices which could stave off the recovery in quick fashion...and I wouldn't be too hasty in giving Barry a big pat on the back....the good things we are seeing though it's still very anemic recovery? Is not because of Obama's policies. But, of course The Anointed One will attempt to ride the wave! Smart voters just won't let him!

The magnitude of the problems he inherited couldn't be solved in a year, in two years or even 10 years. The public opinion in the US is fickle.
Obama is the personification of the qualities that everybody has always admired about the US.
He is a fighter, he beats the odds, he defends what he believes in, even when it isn't popular, he is smart, he has a sense of fairness and he is brave a s hell to take on the job as President of the US when the country was facing the worst crisis in recent history.
He knew he would be blamed for all the disasters he inherited from his predecessor.
He knew that the American public- not always very smart - would want him to solve all the problems in less then a month. And that they would start to blame him for all their woes if he didn't succeed. Greetings from Germany. Anne
