Paula Deen Reportedly "Baffled" By Response to Diabetes Reveal

by at . Comments

The good news, we guess is that Paula Deen is reportedly well aware that people aren't too happy about her decision to unveil her diabetes diagnosis only after she was paid to.

Whether or not Pula admits to greed in concealing the condition while shilling for her high-fat, high-sugar recipes and now Novo Nordisk diabetes drugs is another story.

In any case, Deen is reportedly baffled by the lack of public support for her illness. But besides the public backlash, what really surprises her is the reaction of her peers.

Besides Anthony Bourdain.

Poor Paula Deen

One top food publicist said this: "The amount of chefs that would have come forward with public statements of support and sympathy would have been overwhelming if it wasn't for the fact that Paula hid her diagnosis for three years."

"To only tell the truth when you have locked in a paid spokesperson deal for a non-insulin medication is just too toxic for anyone to want to be involved with."

Truly, it's hard to believe Paula would expect others to get behind a decision to hide her diabetes while continuing to encourage Food Network viewers to eat her cooking.

The cooking that likely led to her health woes in the first place ... call us crazy.

Paula Deen's diabetes has been rumored for some time, but she only came out and admitted she has it a week ago, which didn't sit well with people.

The fact that her admission was accompanied by a drug shill? Oye.

While most PR agencies representing some of the biggest culinary stars today are remaining silent on the matter, one has said, anonymously:

"So here's the deal, obviously none of our chefs want to go on the record saying anything about her. However, I heard someone say it would be news if she didn't get diabetes."

"So I guess friend, butter is bad for you. Who knew?"

LOL. Sad, but LOL.

I think Paula has convinced some people it is ok to eat high fat and sugar. I have never agreed with her ideas and finally she has been exposed. She is typical of an over weight diabetic, IN DENIAL

It's all about money once you get that camera in front of you.
Born and raised in the South you have your choice of what to eat and how to cook it.
Butter is ok in moderation, salt and sugar also.
You can bet she doesn't sit and eat everything she cooks for tv,notice the judges on the cooking shows, they only taste the food
they don't scoff it down or they would all weigh 600 lbs.
Also diabetes is in you when you are born to a diabetic parent and when it wants to it becomes active or not...

I wish people would back up off Paula. She's fun, sweet, and entertaining to watch. Plus her recipes are fantastic. There is plenty of information about the dangers of the types of food she prepares being shoved down our throats by the media every day. Anyone who thought they could eat like that all the time and not suffer any consequences is, for lack of a gentler term, stupid. How is she to blame for other people's stupidity? And why would she be obligated to report her health condition to the whole world? Has anyone thought that maybe she decided to disclose her personal business because she feels the treatment really works, is worth standing behind, and something her fans may need to know about? We make our own choices. There are a million cooking shows out there that teach us how to eat healthy. People who watch Paula Dean and cook her recipes do so of their own volition.

Come on, it's not like she stuffed the butter down your throats and FORCED you to swallow!
People are so critical of others these days! TV is TV, cooking show or not it's a lot of make believe and a little truth.....LEAVE HER ALONE!!

The cooking that likely led to her health woes LIKELY nobody is sure... but one thing to remember is PD provided a service of fattening foods Anyone who gorged themselves on them had to know the same risks were involved for her as were involved for them - she didnt make anyone eat her food; nor is she required to tell the world she has a disease which SKINNY people get also! Butter isn't 'bad'. It's bad in large quantities combined with zero exercise. I'm a long distance athlete, low body fat and I eat moderation. As others have mentioned already.

"that fat chick Ina".....ROTFL!!!

@Mickey: I think the general populace feels duped; Paula appears to have become this overly made up, wig wearing, sugar-n-butter pushing character. Remember when she first came to tv? She was like your Grandma, full of yummy comfort food and easy laughs. She's morphed into someone completely different and her food is equally awful. I know Southern cooking.... it's untrue it has to be fat, sugar, and butter ladened. Just my thoughts, but the lovable sweet lady we all once adored is no longer; all I see is a charlatan.

I really dont understand why she is the target. Anthony B smokes and drinks and eats pork all the time and no criticism. Why the hate for her and not the Man vs Food glutton as well as that fat chick Ina? Most people nowdays know what not to eat and when you choose to eat bad food, do so in moderation.

I'm confused on why everyone is mad. Paula has not lied to anyone or ever made anyone believe that her food is healthy. She cooks traditional southern food and she is straight up old school. Neither did she say to eat this way every day! People need to take accountability for their own actions. You have a choice of what food to eat, how to prepare it, what medicines to take, etc. No one is forcing you to buy her pies or take her meds. The show is for entertainment and the average healthy person would make a Paula Deen dish a couple of times a month, if they chose to do so at all.
