Natalee Holloway Legally Dead, Judge Declares

Natalee Holloway was declared legally dead Thursday by a judge in her home state of Alabama. She mysteriously vanished in Aruba more than six years ago.

Probate judge Alan King made the ruling at the request of Holloway's father.

While her body was never found, Dave Holloway met a legal presumption of death for his daughter, according to King, who had set Thursday as the deadline for anyone to come forward and prove she didn't die on the Caribbean island.

With no evidence to the contrary, Natalee Holloway is legally deceased.

The ruling comes just one day after longtime suspect Joran van der Sloot pleaded guilty to the murder of another woman, Stephany Flores, in Peru.

Van der Sloot's lawyer said the 24-year-old killed Flores in 2010 due to "extreme psychological trauma" he experienced in the Holloway investigation.

After over six years, Dave Holloway made the request to settle his daughter Natalee's estate and free up funds set previous aside for her education.

Beth Holloway, Natalee's mother and Dave's ex-wife, opposed the request, in part because she held out a sliver of hope and also to lead by example.

"Her life's commitment now is working with other families with missing family members," her lawyer said. "She would lose her credibility with them if she were to give up hope."

"How could she tell them not to give up hope if she did, for her own daughter?"

The article I read said he killed her bc she found out how he was connected to natalee's disappearance on his laptop...ok well if that was the case why haven't the police got ahold of this info off the laptop and solved the mystery...that's the biggest load of crap I've ever read...he needs to be tortured for the rest of his life for what he has done to these girls and their families...I strongly believe there's a special place in hell for people like him.

Van Der Sloot is messed up in the head...Him saying that her disappearance affected him the way it did is nothing but pure crap...You don't use something like that for an excuse to kill someone else. This is something he is gonna have to live with for the rest of his life. I hope at some point that The Holloway family will be able to find closure with this and my prayers continue to be with them.

I just hope that there will be some closure for the family. I just can't believe that Joran and his lawyer are blaming the victim. Are they that desperate to get lesser charges? It's pathic that he keeps trying to either say he didn't know what he was doning at the time of stefany's death or blame the victim. Natalee and Stefany did not deserve to be killed and both of their families didn't deserve this trama. I hope joran will never have a life because you should never have a life if you take one away (in Joran's case 2).

I met Natalee a few times in high school competitions... She was a bright and wonderful girl. I was lucky to have called her my friend... And her soul lives on in those who knew her. (Though I still hope she surfaces soon)... Thoughts and love are still with her family.

It goes without saying that van der Sloot remains a monster. It was Not enough that he was associated with the disappearance of Miss Holloway, but it is an absolute insult for him to use the excuse of her disappearance as a reason for him to experience extreme psychological trauma as the reasoning for killing another young woman. He "killed" Ms. Flores because that is what he is a "real lady killer" and the idea that a brief encounter with him ended the young life of Ms. Flores proves it. I can easily believe that there will Never be an absolute peace of closure for The Holloway Family, but just knowing that he will be imprisoned in dungeon for many years is the first step for the families of his victims to start healing!!
