The Virgin Diaries: Exploitative or Educational?

The Virgin Diaries premieres this Sunday night on TLC, as that network hopes viewers are excited to follow the lives of folks who, later in life, have still not gone all the way.

In the following promo for the new series, we see a few individuals touch upon what this experience is like, as well as a just-married couple that shares its first kiss... ever. Watch the groom devour his bride's face now:

With folks around the Internet making fun of the smooch,  TLC West Coast VP of Production, Timothy Kuryak, has issued a statement that defends his program. He says it's not exploiting these virgins at all:

"We’re not trying to make light of this or treat it in a sort of trivial way. We want to document these peoples’ stories and why they make this decision. A lot of stories about later in life virgins talk about it like a problem. We want to show that this is something that can be celebrated."
