Kelly Clarkson Endorses Ron Paul, Twitter War Erupts

by at . Comments

Original American Idol Kelly Clarkson made a surprise endorsement in the 2012 Republican presidential race last night, throwing her support behind Ron Paul.

This did not go over well with some fans.

“I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance,” she wrote of the candidate. “If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.”

Many of Clarkson’s 925,000 followers took issue with her support for the Texan, citing the alleged racism and homophobia of Paul's old newsletters.

“That’s because you willfully ignoring his voting record, his statements, interviews, newsletters, and policy positions,” one follower Tweeted at her.

“You are obviously living under a rock. I don’t even live in the United States and hear about his stupidity,” Tweeted another fan from abroad.

Clarkson tried to maintain calm, responding:  “I am about progress. Ron Paul is about letting people decide, not the government. I am for this.”

At that point, some came to her defense. “I love you girl,” one fan wrote. “If they dont love you over your political support, they dont love you!”

Clarkson continued to clarify her stance, noting in an extended tweet, “I am really sorry if I have offended anyone. Obviously that was not my intent."

"I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights."

"I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country."

"That is all. Out of all of the Republican nominees, he’s my favorite.”

Some may question the wisdom of weighing in on such a topic at all, but to her credit, Clarkson kept her cool and didn’t waver from her stance.

Paul is currently battling Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum and Rick Perry for the 2012 Republican nomination.

The Iowa caucuses kick off the primary season January 3.

Not a homophobic racist? Then you need to get your head out of your butt...there is a ton of evidence that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the man is a racist and homophobe...Have you not seen the picture take. Just last year of RonPaul smiling and shaking hands with the grand wizard of the KKK? Do your research folks and Kelly highly disappointed that you would support a known bigot!

RP is not a racists learn to get your facts from a more factual source thats not media related to a big news company.

Kelly Clarkson has the right to support Ron Paul !! Just like others can support the other Republican candidates or support President Obama. There is no reason to attack and use evil speech just because you don't like a candidate That's ridiculous!!!

Ron Paul????????? Really??????? Sooooooo NOT a good choice. To each his/her own. Just saying.....

It's a free country. We all have the right to vote for whom we please.

we all have the right to vote for who'm we prefer, without the risk of being called nasty names and being intimidated for it!!! you a-holes who don't understand that need to get a brand new life!!

some of the tweeters sound like morons.if i rejected listening to every artist that voted differently than i did,i'd probably wind up having a lot less of a music collection..besides what kind of moron only buys music from artists that voted the same way he/she did..i've never encountered anyone like that in my entire life so it sounds weird to me./i don't care who my favorite artists vote for or what party they represent,i only care about their music./same with actors.i still watch and enjoy mel gibson's movies.and btw i don't vote for someone based on who their favorite recording artists is.

Ron Paul 2012!! Gay, straight, black, white, purple or green....he fights for our rights.

Ron Paul is the best.
He's down with the ganja.
4:20. Ron Paul 2012.

Ron Paul was busy delivering poor black babies for free when those news letters came out: He didn't write them. Further, Ron Paul is the most pro-gay anti-racist presidential candidate in the history of this nation. The criticisms of him are laughable.
