Ke$ha Covers Bob Dylan, Doesn't Suck

by at . Comments

Ke$ha is known for many things: crazy eye-liner, unique outfits, decent dance moves.

But a smooth, catchy voice isn't exactly one of them, which is what makes the following cover so unexpected.

As part of a compilation CD in honor of Amnesty International's 50th anniversary - titled "Chimes of Freedom" - 76 artists have gathered to sing their own take on Bob Dylan classics. Among them are Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Adele, Maroon 5... and Ke$ha. Listen and react to her slowed-down version of "Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” now:

Maybe I'm alone in thinking this, but I didn't like it. Ke$ha is not an artist, she is a persona and I was disappointed that she got to cover such an amazing song at all. After giving it a fair chance and a listen, I remain disappointed. I don't think that she captured the essence of the song at all. I also don't believe that she was crying. Maybe you cry the first time you hear the song or maybe even the first time you sing it, but if you cry during a recording it is just an attempt to seem authentic. It's obnoxious. The song is cynical, sarcastic and angry and she manages to reduce it to a whiny mess. But that's just my opinion.

Ke$ha's version totally caught me off guard and I love it and love her for it.
