Hard Times: Nikki Blonsky Now Working at Hair Salon
by Free Britney at .From Hairspray to the hair salon: Actress Nikki Blonsky is now logging part time hours at her hometown beauty parlor on Long Island in order to make ends meet.
"Its true. I'm working at Superstar Salon as a makeup artist and more. I'm proud to be working and paying bills but I'll NEVER lose sight of my dreams," she said.
The part-time gig doesn't mean she's out of the spotlight for good, however..
Nikki Blonsky was kind of big for awhile.
The star, who most recently appeared on ABC Family's Huge, says, "Just 'cause I'm part time working doesn't mean I'm giving up on my dreams; don't give up on yours."
"I might book something big soon. Keep positive," she told her Twitter 2,775 followers.
The actress recently earned her cosmetology license, and for what it's worth, Blonsky's customers appear to be happy with her work at the business.
"I was so surprised today when I showed up at Superstar to get my makeup done and it turned out to be Nikki Blonsky applying it," wrote one customer on Facebook.
"She did a great job and I really look like a SUPERSTAR. Thanks to all the wonderful staff and I wish all the best to their newest employee cosmetologist Nikki Blonsky."

Seriously? Concern trolls? Do some basic research. It is possible to be fat and fit. To be fat and healthy. Weight is related to diet. Fitness is related to physical exercise. If someone has the stamina to dance it up like Blonsky did in Hairspray then she's obviously the fat and fit type. Overweight is not synonymous with unhealthy, just like thin is not synonymous with healthy. "Staying fat" versus "starving yourself"? Those are two totally opposite things. There's a huge difference. Starving yourself is changing your body to fit an unrealistic mold. Accepting who you are, rolling with the punches, and practicing radical self love in the face of adversity? That's pretty remarkable. Besides. Why is it so intimidating to you, some stranger on the internet, that a fat woman is confident?
If she has always been so happy with her weight, why did she lose some of it?
SO sick of people saying "Im fat and happy" and then make it seem like there's something wrong with being fit and happy. My thing is this, she claims to be happy with her size but never says how much she weighs. She even goes as far as to say that had she listened to all the people telling her to lose weight she would'nt have landed her role in hairspray or huge. Come on, how is not losing weight for a role any better than starving yurself for one. Its all health and these little opportunities she crediting to her unhealthy weight is sad. You should never do something because of what others see is best for you based on roles or looks, losing weight should be soley based on health and as someone who's 4'10 and appears to be if not already 200 plus, there is no doubt her health is a tinking timebomb.
I looked at that picture above just again. It actually looks like she GAINED weight - deary me! If she keeps putting on even more weight she'll never find work as an actress again. Someone who's too (self-)complacent to do what's necessary to keep getting hired as an actress, can be 'positive' and "hopeful' all she wants, it's not gonna happen. For men, (like John Goodman), it's a little bit different but for someone who only starts out, it's not a good idea to get too comfortable with their out-of-order size.
Something tells me that if she'd have put in an effort to lose at least some weight, she wouldn't have needed to take up a PT job as a hairdresser or make-up artist. It's about proportion - Queen Latifah is a big woman, too, but she carries it well because she's a tall woman. Nikki is too short and it just looks too much as if she's as broad/wide as she's tall. I find Nikki hard to watch shaking her big fat derrière. I watched Hairpray because of John Travolta who's hilarious in his role as Edna and Christopher Walken, who's a very interesting actor to watch even though he's far from good-looking. Being too fat is NOT attractive and it only takes you so far... You can't bank on 'being comfortable being heavy and overweight' on its merits alone. I bet my bottom dollar it's one of the main reasons she doesn't get hired more, even IF she's talented and 'positive'. Instead she ought to egt busy working on her bodyweight.
