Dancing With the Stars Winner J.R. Martinez Speaks on a Dream Come True

by at .

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff took home the title on last night's Dancing With the Stars season finale, besting Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke in a nail-biter.

Ricki Lake and Derek Hough came in third after what was a very evenly matched final round. In the end, though, the fan favorite and top dancer took the crown.

"I joked about gluing it on the hood of my car and just driving around L.A.," J.R. said of the Mirror Ball trophy. "Or be like rappers, make a chain out of it and just wear it around! I'm going to cherish this thing every single day!"

Mirror Ball jokes aside, J.R. took a moment to thank his fans, saying, "We just want to thank everyone who voted for us for 10 weeks and believed in us week in and week out! I had no idea what it would feel like and it feels amazing."

Though she says all the finalists were "a team of friends who compete and enjoy the process," Karina admits it was nice to win the competition - her first in 10 seasons.

"To come out on top at the end and to hold [the trophy], it's so beautiful."

J.R., the 28-year-old Iraq War veteran, motivational speaker and soap opera star, partly credits his fellow competitors Rob and Ricki for his big victory.

"Both of them did so well and were so great. It was great that we all progressed because they actually pushed us to be better," said the true class act.

Tajan gilbert, If you think the show is so bad, then why are you watching it? Is you're TV so old it doesn't have a button that you can change the channel, or turn it off? I think maybe you should turn off you're TV,get down on your knees, and PRAY TO GOD.Sounds like you have a lot more problems, than worrying about a TV show.I'LL SAY A LITTLE PRAYER FOR YOU TONIGHT. YOU REALLY NEED IT GIRL!!!! Congratulations to JR for winning. JR I think you were "GREAT"!!!!

Tajan gilbert, what a poor attitude. You have a right to your opinion, but why all the foul language. Usually people who talk like that have very low self esteem, or maybe just jealous. Clean it up!

Yes, I think J.R deserved to win. I also think Rob and Ricki both were phenomenal dancers and could have won as well. Just b/c JR overcame a horrendous ordeal doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve to win. He too, was an exceptional dancer and had his GREAT dancing moments, as did Rob and Ricki. I watched the entire show and he did not play the sympathy card for votes. He worked equally as hard as the rest of his competitors and accepted the judges' feedback everytime. I think he was a role model to lots of people and showed them that despite obstacles in your life you should not hold back from getting out there. Congratulations to him! The final three all deserved it! He happened to be the one who won and he should be proud.

Rob Kardashian should not have come in 2nd. He should have been 4th. Hope Solo was better than him & Ricky Lake should have come in 2nd. This was the worst season especially with the judges being so ridiculous. They definitely show their favoritism.
