Dancing With the Stars Recap: J.R. & Ricki Dominate, Kardashians Show Up, Maks Gets PISSED!

by at . Comments

The sixth week of Dancing With the Stars' 13th season saw some famous faces in the crowd, some fancy footwork and a harsh exchange between Maks and Len.

J.R. Martinez and Ricki Lake again stole the show, with sky-high scores that, while deserved, almost seem engineered to give them a buffer against fan voting.

Not that Ricki or J.R. didn't earn their 29s or don't have major fan support as it is. But it's like the judges are taking no chances rewarding the high-flying pair.

Ricki Lake has shown she can move it like no other, and J.R. Martinez's quickstep to the intro music from Chicago was probably the best routine of the night.

That doesn't mean others didn't get slighted.

Hope Solo's rumba to "Seasons of Love" from Rent was panned by the judges, particularly Len, who called it her "worst dance" and drew an angry rebuke.

After Len noted that the audience applauds the routines, but he's been in the business for 50 years, Maks suggested that maybe it was "time to get out."

"With all due respect, this is my show, I help make it what it is, I love every aspect of it," Chmerkovskiy said backstage, not backing down for one second.

"I love every professional that's ever been here and I love every celebrity who puts effort into it every week. Having said that, I'm a little tired that we're being judged, some on effort and some being picked on [for] heel leads."

Well, that's some food for thought isn't it?

Earning the third highest score of the night, surprisingly, was Nancy Grace, whose foxtrot to Spamalot's "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" was a hit.

A couple of fan favorites, Rob Kardashian and David Arquette, couldn't quite match Nance despite the star power they had in the audience cheering them.

David got to exercise his inner geeky prom king with a quickstep to "We Go Together" from Grease, to the delight of daughter Coco, but not the judges.

He did score a respectable 23, besting Rob by a point. Kim Kardashian, Kris Humphries, Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian would've scored him higher.

"Give him a 9!" Khloe encouraged from the sidelines after Rob's Broadway week cha-cha to "Walk Like a Man." "Dream on, sweetheart," retorted Len.

According to Goodman, at his cantankerous best last night, Rob's dance managed to have good timing but no rhythm. Sounds contradictory, but oh well.

  • Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer
  • Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
  • Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke

In the bottom tier, Chaz Bono gave what we thought was a decent effort, but the judges did not agree. At 19 points, he's on the chopping block again.

"Not much to say, is there?" Chaz said. "I understand, I've been there," replied Brooke Burke Charvet, who won the whole thing and totally never has.

Anyway, here's a look at Monday's Dancing With the Stars scores:

  • J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff: 29
  • Ricki Lake & Derek Hough: 29
  • Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus: 24
  • David Arquette & Kym Johnson: 23
  • Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke: 22
  • Hope Solo & Maks Chmerkovskiy: 20
  • Chaz Bono & Lacey Schwimmer: 19

Who do you think has danced his or her last routine? Do you agree with scores, from top to bottom? Who's going home on Tuesday's results show?

Comment below, and vote for who you think will win!

Rob Kardashian was told that this was his best performance to date. What??!!! He shuffled his feet, did a few slides to the left and right, a kick or two and this was praiseworthy???!!! Meanwhile, fan favorite JR Martinez was panned by the judges, as was Nancy Grace. Are the judges getting paid to vote in favor of Kardashian each week? Just wondering because, if you really pay attention, he is NOT a good dancer yet the judges as smitten!

I have watched Dancing with the Stars since it began. I was a dance teacher in my early years and I enjoyed this show every time it came on. I always felt that the Judges were making constructive comments so that the applicant and professional could improve each time they performed. However, I was very disappointed that Max who I have respect for as a professional dancer and teacher was put in the position to defend his partner. I do not think Max wanted to say anything but in a delicate situation he had no alternative and was not prepared. Len is a professional and he should know how to critique all applicants and all situations. I hope that Len, Bruno, and Carrie Ann along with the professional dancers learned something from this encounter and will improve how they treat the applicants and make the show better since it has become such a success.

The judges are getting to be too much. They seem to be making the show all about them. Maybe it is time to replace them. So You Think You Can Dance has a much kinder judge panel. Maybe Dancing With The Stars judges are tired of the show.

For a program that is suppose to be happy and fun entertainment, the insulting remarks from the judges are out of line. You wouldn't have to vote me off, I'd quit. The contestants are gracious enough to give it their all, only to be belittled. These judges need to go judge professionals and give the audience a break. We as an audience enjoy and appreciate they efforts.Give some judges that have an understanding of the meaning of fun.

1)Change the voting to 55% Judges 45% viewers.
2)Hire new judges for next year. They were politically afraid - Palin, and are influenced by a vocal support group - Kardashian's.
3)Maks is right. Remember these are the same judges that kept giving Mr. P good comments (Len didn't like his shoes). They were never harsh with him.
4)The only time they (Len) scrutinizes that heel toe business is when they just don't like the contestant. This is why this group should be replaced. The judges are the ones who think too much of themselves.

Since you already take time to format the comments submitted, spell check could be helpful as well.

It is time to replace the judges who have been increasingly rude to
the pros and the guests who have been working their butts off. the
professionals are outstanding and do amazing improvements to their
partners. DUMP LEN,BRUNO AND CARRIE ANN. THEY CAN BE EASILY REPLACED
BY JUDGES WHO WILL NOT BE INSULTING MAKS WAS WONDERFUL IN HIS COMMENTS TO THE IDIOT LEN GOODMAN. UP TO NOW I HAVE FAITHFULLY
WATCHED EACH AND EVERY WEEK. NOW I AM DISGUSTED WITH THE WHOLE THING
AND WILL NOT WATCH ANYTHING ON CHANNEL 7 CHAZ WAS A GENTLEMAN

I think that Maks was correct in that the male judges make hurtful and rude comments instead of constructive ones.BUT Maks was rude in his manner and choice of words used. Cobb

Respect gets respect. I am sick and tired of all the hurting remarks made to the contestants. These people are trying their best and should be critizied for their dances NOT their person. Name calling is unacceptable and rude. Take note CarrieAnn....that is disrespectful. Granted, Hope leaves a lot to be desired in her dancing ability but she needs tips on how to improve her ability, as do they all. They are not going on to be professional dancers Most already have a career. Entertaining us is what they try to do for a short while. How about changing judges once in a while? By the way Len, you suck at doing the twist!!!!

chaz should have gone home the first week, agreed! Never should have been there in the first place. It moves like a girl walks like a girl....
