Obama Jobs Speech Happens; Did Anyone Watch?

by at . Comments

You have to give President Obama credit for delivering his “American Jobs Act” speech at 7 p.m. EST, getting it over with early enough so that he wouldn't interfere with the Saints vs. Packers game and/or a crucial episode of Big Brother.

On the flip side, 8 p.m. on is called prime time for a reason.

If you missed it (purposely or not) The Prez blended his trademark oration with economic proposals that essentially boiled down to him telling the Republican-led Congress, “You should pass this jobs plan right away.”

Obama tried to position himself with the public and as a voice of reason, stating:

“The question is whether, in the face of an ongoing national crisis, we can all stop the political circus and actually do something to help the economy.”

He insisted this was “not class warfare,” while saying that “we need a tax code where everyone gets a fair shake” and “everyone pays their fair share.”

The immediate reaction to the President’s speech was mixed.

Many commentators on CNN thought he did a pretty good job. Meanwhile, over on Fox News, Bill O’Reilly called the speech “pretty much a charade.”

On Current TV, Keith Olbermann’s guest, economist Jeff Madrick, pretty much agreed, saying Obama “didn’t explain how” he was going to do this.

And on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart acknowledged up front that the speech was being made after he taped his show, and since he doesn’t air on Fridays, he’d deal with the Obama plan “on Monday, when you don’t give a $h!t anymore.”

That, more than anything, underscores Obama's problem: He's on the verge of being tuned out. But has he been by you? Or do you have faith in the guy?

That "jobs speech" was ridiculous. As noted, he wants to play the part of being above the fray. The outrageous concept of a guy scolding Congress "for playing politics" when this speech was loaded with all kinds of political jabs and rhetoric is enough to rate the speech -10 on a scale of 5 to 10.
