Movie Review: Ryan Gosling in the Driver's Seat

by at . Comments

You could sum up Drive in four words: Ryan Gosling owns it.

Although he says next to nothing in the first 20 minutes of the film, opening this weekend, Gosling’s impact is immense - the true hallmark of an A-list star.

Gosling plays Driver, a movie stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver for anyone who will hire him, with intensity that makes this a must-see.

With a great lead, cinematography and supporting roles (you can include L.A. itself in that category), Drive is so much more more than meets the eye.

The director believes he is a new age piccasso, with his arty farty shots!! The film wonders mysteriously off track to a blood bath off mindless violence with no substance. It will leave you feeling disappointed the only good thing was the first 15 min, where nobody says anything as soon as Ryan Gosling opens his mouth it crashes and burns. And possibly the lamest twist to end a movie. Bore off.... Many thanks

Definitely a flawed movie, but compared to the rat of the drivel out there that many are upset that this wasn't, It was a throwback to the great films of the 70s and early 80s. Yeah, I know ... no happy Hollywood ending, an actual plot, well-developed characters, and the need to actually have an attention span, will definitely not appeal to the dumbed down teenage male market. Who cares-there's ,more than enough cookie cutter formulaic tripe out there already.

This was pretty bad. Good acting. Good cinematography. There was a certain element that was missing...oh yeah I guess it was everything that misrepresented by the trailer. Or maybe the title? The trailer is unbelievably misleading. The title...how could you take a great potential title for an actual car movie and label this mafia/love story with it? Shame on you. You suckered me in. If it was called something artsy and the trailer represented this as a college kids art film project for sundance I would've not watched this.

Another of those "artsy" movies that pseudo-critics hail as a masterpiece. It's not, say what you want but this movie definitely sucks. Of course, all these vanguard-cinema buffs will say that the ones who didn't like it, it's because we just "don't get it". Pfft.. thats kinda tired and lame. This movie is a total joke, the whole damn time I got the impression that I was watching a high school movie project. Instead of "Drive" this movie should be called "Stare", there's more staring than driving in this one... heck of a way to give pacing to a movie LOL Don't waste your time people.

Awww, I hate to say it, but this movie was a hot mess!! It was terrible!! Still like Ryan Gosling though!

Director spent a lot of money on advertising! Because the movie absolutely sucked! My wife and I left the theatre angry for waisting money on it! I have seen some bad movies but not this bad. I've never felt like I needed to go request a refund for a movie! felt like a low budget film. Gore scenes were overdramatized and very non-realistic. He doesn't want to get caught at what he does yet he wears a bloody jacket 2 sizes too small around for days?? I wanted to shout out at the end of a movie That Sucked as I did this one! Terrible!

No, this is definitely not The Fast & The Furious; go see with such expectations and you'll end up frustrated and angry. This is more of a character study on nonredeemable people, ultimate losers for which the happy ending was never an option (think Baghdad Café meets Heat). Not a perfect film, but pretty tight direction, superb lead by Gosling, solid supporting roles by Brooks and Perlman.

The worst movie I have ever seen in the theater! I wanted to scream at the screen for someone to say something. My wife wanted to walk out half way through, but I kept saying it has to kick in soon. It never did. HATED THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!! so much that it made me angry. They made it look like an action movie in the trailer, BULL SHIT! it was painful to watch, two guys behind me fell asleep. I wish I had!!!

MOVIE WAS HORRIBLE!! Tried to be too cool with its lack of storyline and dialog. I literally wanted to walk out during the extended scenes where people just stood there with the camera panning and zooming...BORING. What a waste of a good storyline in a half ass directed piece hipster crap

I thought it was an excellent movie that breaks the Hollywood mold although the lack of dialogue was painful at times. The kissing scene in the elevator before he crushes the mobsters head was LAME. I love movies where there is constant tension for the viewer and this has it in spades. Chase scenes rocked. Opening scene rocked. Great movie with a few cheesy 80's type of quirks.
