Eric Roberts on Marijuana: Legalize It!
One year after actor Eric Roberts completed a stint in Celebrity Rehab for marijuana "dependency," he's pushing for its legalization, which will never happen.
Eric, who made news last fall for calling Kate Gosselin a child abuser, says if alcohol is legal, weed should be, given the infallible logic that "Alcohol has destroyed whole civilizations whereas pot has only made a few hippies happy."
Yep. That's all it's ever done. You heard it here first.
Roberts adds that, "Pot remains illegal because no one has figured out how to make it profitable for the government yet ... it's political, not protective."
Back before he sought treatment last year, Eric's wife Eliza explained how the actor "quit drugs and alcohol in 1995" but still had an "interest in weed."
"He uses marijuana as a medication. He has a prescription ... however, a dependency is a dependency and he doesn't want to be dependent on it."
Either way ... should we legalize it?

for goodness sakes. keep our eyes on the ball. get it rescheduled, and remove the ever present dark cloud that is hanging over this whole situation. the federal situation has to be resolved first, before any of this makes any sense. bravo, i applaud all the states efforts in all their forms and purposes, but...only when the DEA HHS and FDA are stopped in their tracks, this movement will never really prevail. the DEA will Never give up, count on that. but like all of you, i still have hopes, it will take time for this to be settled, get comfortable. btw, i want it fully legalized, but if it never is, it wont change a thing for me, i can and will get it, no problem, as will we all :). Pot will never be legalized? If you look at all the polls what you'll see is that support among voters for legalizing marijuana is around 45% nationally and rising by around a point a year. Prop 19 failed in California in 2010, but 46.5% of the votes werefor the proposition, which is really high considering it was a midterm election where the ratio of old to young voters was very high, as is usually the case. Had the ratio been the same as it was in the last presidential election, Prop 19 would have gotten 49% of the vote. Each year, more of the older voters most opposed to legaization die off or become too old and infirmed to vote, and more young people several times more likely to have smoked pot and far more likely to support legalization reach voting age. Within a few years the majority of voters nationwide will be for legalization andsooner or later it's going to happen. My bet is that we will not get through the next decade without seeing marijuana legalized at the federal le

I absolutely agree that marijuana should be legalized, with or without a stupid medical card! Alcohol is way more damaging to people, whether ur the one drinking it or just at the wrong place at the wrong time. How many people have died of marijuana poisoning? How many people have went on a rampage because of marijuana? How many people smoking it have the energy to go on a rampage?? Lol!

I don't appreciate the tone the author uses in this article at all.
I used to work with terminally ill patients in one of the country's top cancer hospitals (NYC, Upper East Side) in its cannabis program. All patient were stage 4 and on the brink of death. I, along with others, helped them roll doobies in hemp paper, held it to their lips and lit it for them. For patients with respiratory issues, we would administer THC pills.
It changed my entire outlook on this "war on drugs" we have going on. Yes, these people were on death's door, but it made it handling their pain so much more bearable than drug cocktails. It helped them eat (MUNCHIES!) and it made acceptance of what was to come much easier for them.
No one ever ODed. No one wigged out. No one ever tried to harm me and the staff in any way. They were the chilliest bunch of patients I EVER had the pleasure of working with.
And its a DAMN SHAME the people that are going through chemo/rad treatments for their cancers

Does the author live in a cave? Marijuana is already legal (for anyone with a medical marijuana card) in CA, CO, MI, and MT.
There will be legalization initiatives on the 2012 ballot in at least three states (CA, CO, WA). Rest assured, it will pass in at least one.

You will be eating your words when California (and maybe Colorado) legalizes marijuana with a ballot initiative in 2012
