Doug Lamborn on "Tar Baby" Comparison: My Bad!

by at .

Doug Lamborn is really sorry. When he referred to President Barack Obama's economic policy as a "tar baby" this week, he meant to use the word "quagmire." Hey, we've all been there, right?

In a radio show interview over the weekend, the Colorado Congressman said:

“Even if some people say, ‘Well the Republicans should have done this or they should have done that,’ they will hold the President responsible. Now, I don’t even want to have to be associated with him. It’s like touching a tar baby and you get it, you’re stuck, and you’re a part of the problem now and you can’t get away.”

Lamborn has since sent a letter of apology to the President and his office released the following statement:

The congressman was “attempting to tell a radio audience last week that the president's policies have created an economic quagmire for the nation and are responsible for the dismal economic conditions our country faces. He regrets that he chose the phrase 'tar baby,' rather than the word 'quagmire.'

The politician told The Denver Post:

“I absolutely intended no offense, and if this is at all on his radar screen, I am sure that he will not take offense and he'll be happy to accept my apology because he is a man of character.”

Seriously, who even has the term "tar baby" in his vernacular these days?!?

He's trying to do the best that he can . the REP. will not give him a break. They want him out of office, and they will take the USA down to remove him. We need to remove them instead.

RSmith, what does "I don’t even want to have to be associated with him. It’s like touching a tar baby" mean to you? I emphasize the "HIM" part. And since you are so well versed in history, please advise me of the origins of the words "tar baby" and its resulting connotation as far as it pertains to African Americans. I am sure that you both knew the negative meaning behind his words and you probably use the term as well.

The comment was made in reference to Obama's policy, not in reference to the president himself. You are all taking the comment out of context. Jump on the bandwagon to bash an old-fashioned statement. The truth is that people now-a-days are so ignorant and don't know the history of such a comment, so they spin it in a negative way....when if you read the transcript of the actual statement....he said nothing about the president at all.

Auntie M, on another note what do you think about the Affordable Care Act? I ask since you and your daughters have all of these health issues which has caused you and them to be denied jobs, school opportunities and friendships etc. Are your health care issues due to diet?
