Dancing With The Stars Praised, Assailed For Chaz Bono Casting

by at . Comments

The casting of Chaz Bono on Dancing With The Stars has sparked serious debate.

That watershed moment for the gay and lesbian community has been hailed by many, calling it a breakthrough and a triumph for diversity in America.

“Chaz Bono joining the cast of a series like Dancing With The Stars would be a tremendous step forward for the American public to recognize that transgender people are another wonderful part of the fabric of our culture,” said GLAAD.

However, the move has prompted backlash from critics as well.

A spokesperson for the Media Research Center, which “seeks to bring balance to the news media and prevent liberal bias from undermining traditional American values” says that Bono's addition to the DWTS Season 13 cast is taking things too far.

“Whether it’s Glee or Dancing With the Stars, this is Hollywood’s insistence on tearing down traditional families," said Dan Gainor, VP of Business & Culture.

"Parents now more than ever must realize they cannot let their kids watch TV without supervision or risk advocating lifestyles that most do not approve of."

I don't care what gender Chaz is... But, what has he done to make him a star?

This is great freak show entertainment. Kudos to ABC
It would be a hoot if chaz wore a ball gown. Now they need to get that lady who gave birth to that litter of babies on the show
Ratings dynamite!

The people being nasty are probably closeted gays or trans people who can't afford the operation. Shame on you for hating on him for being who he is. I'm a Christian conservative, but have no problem with my kids being exposed to trans people or gays. Aren't we all equal?

There is absolutely nothing strange or 'weird' about being transgendered. Chaz looks great as a man and his gender identity bears no relevance to his dancing skills. Although DWTS might lose some conservative bigots/extremists, it will no doubt gain droves of gay, lesbian, bisexaul and trans viewers.

He, well she (whatever) is disgusting!

WEIRD.... and how mortifying for Cher. Chastity now looks like Pugsly Addams. If you're going to claim a gender get a penis Chaz is a poseur. ALEXIS ARQUETTE atleast removed her unit. She now has a functioning faux vagina. She's all lady baby!!"

"If there is a next time, maybe we could throw in a couple of misunderstood petophiles and rapist or other felons." How is someone who is a law abiding, tax paying American citizen the same as animals like pedophiles (learn to spell) and rapists? They're not hurting anyone by being themselves unlike the criminals you mentioned. And stop referring to Chaz as a she. Chaz is a he. It doesn't matter whether or not he has a penis (and frankly, that's none of anyone's business), he identifies as male and should be treated as such. @capri is a whore: Not everyone who believes in God believes in the Bible, or any Bible, so there's nothing to "get straight" when referring to transgender people as God's gift. I don't believe in God either, but I do believe in not being an ignorant fool. This show has always featured women nearly naked? How is that a "classy" show that instills "traditional" American values? These people couldn't be more contradictory if they tried.

The only knife used was to remove her breasts....she still has her female genitalia. She's a transvestite. For example, In the eyes of the law, she would be placed in a female facility if she were to commit crime.

at lisa- when a doctor needs to use a knife and operating table to attach this 'gift' to make someone happy. its not from god. no where in the bible does it say anything about transgender people. i dont beleive in god nor do i believe in this bullshit they call a show. but jesus. get your facts straight.

I think its hilarious and can't wait to watch. She is Not transgender, she is a pre-op transvestite (although she has had a mastectomy and hormones)
She has said she will not have a penis fashioned until there are advances made. There you go, lighten up and enjoy the show.

I am not the best dancer, and I have not been the best dancer from the beginning. I am happy we made it this far.
