Dancing With The Stars Praised, Assailed For Chaz Bono Casting

by at . Comments

The casting of Chaz Bono on Dancing With The Stars has sparked serious debate.

That watershed moment for the gay and lesbian community has been hailed by many, calling it a breakthrough and a triumph for diversity in America.

“Chaz Bono joining the cast of a series like Dancing With The Stars would be a tremendous step forward for the American public to recognize that transgender people are another wonderful part of the fabric of our culture,” said GLAAD.

However, the move has prompted backlash from critics as well.

A spokesperson for the Media Research Center, which “seeks to bring balance to the news media and prevent liberal bias from undermining traditional American values” says that Bono's addition to the DWTS Season 13 cast is taking things too far.

“Whether it’s Glee or Dancing With the Stars, this is Hollywood’s insistence on tearing down traditional families," said Dan Gainor, VP of Business & Culture.

"Parents now more than ever must realize they cannot let their kids watch TV without supervision or risk advocating lifestyles that most do not approve of."

IF Chaz had been born a male. There would be none of this back biting. But, HE was not comfortable in his skin as a female and had his gender changed. Leave him alone. It could have been one of yours. He is hurting nobody and that decision was not yours to make. We are not here to judge. Let him find his peace and move forward with his life. But he was the cutest baby girl I'd seen in a long time. Just sayin.

Chaz,,,, dance away! Thanks for having the guts to do this. To be this upfront takes bigger balls than I have and I was born with a set. If anyone doesn't like it, they can change the channel.
Have fun Chaz!

Its getting to the point where there are no decent shows for families on tv at all. As a mother of two young girls, DWTS was something they loved to watch but no sadly no more. I don't want to have to explain this disgusting display to them. Maybe these people in Hollywood don't care what their children watch but we do here in Middle America. We actually care about the keeping our kids "kids" for as long as we can. Ratings will be low low for this show and they will see just how many people do care about this topic. ABC had better check itself or the whole network will suffer in the long run.

Y ou go Chaz! We don't have to make social commentary on the contestants on DWTS. This is a dance show, not a social studies class. Don't let bigotry rule, just enjoy the show.

I think it's disgusting. I don't want to see so much homosexuality on television. You can't get away form it. It's getting to the point where we can't even watch TV as a family. Hollywood, please clean it up.

All y'all be hatin' for real. Dude happy ain't nobody bizness anyhow.

Every person who has a right to their opinion and a right to voice it. I personally think the whole thing is ridiculous. I Don't want to watch a fat, attention hungry, ugly transvestite on my TV so I won't watch. Not everyone is going to accept her and that's ok. To some people even negative attention is better than no attention.

Big fan of dws, will not watch this year Chaz, really,he is a freak show, how did she/he become a star, makes me sick

Some of you people make me sick. Stop being so judgmental. Chaz feels like a man & that is the way he wants to live life. Let him. He is not hurting any of you or your children. If you don't want to watch the show because he is in it then don't, you are ridiculous. DWTS has shown the women dancers almost naked & you are worried about your children seeing Chaz (who will be fully clothed). Unless you tell them they would not know that he wasn't a man. It is going to be your reaction to the situation that damages them... not Chaz on DWTS.

Wow...another effort to force-feed the GLBT lifestyle down our throats. I'm not swallowing...and I'm not watching this season's show.

I am not the best dancer, and I have not been the best dancer from the beginning. I am happy we made it this far.
