Amy Winehouse Toxicology Results: Singer NOT on Drugs at Time of Death

by at . Comments

Amy Winehouse's toxicology results have proven she was not on any sort of illegal drugs at the time of her death, according to her family members.

She had been drinking alcohol, however.

Amy's family says officials have not determined if the booze played a role in the soul singer's death. However, the lack of drugs - if true - is a surprise.

Troubled Singer

Amy Winehouse's substance abuse problem has been documented for years.

A rep from Scotland Yard told TMZ that the law enforcement agency has not yet received a copy of Winehouse's toxicology results from the coroner.

Amy was found dead in her London apartment July 23.

Her family swore she was off drugs at the time of her death, and even put out the theory that she died from alcohol withdrawal and/or seizures.

Here's what the Winehouses said in a statement:

"Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities confirm there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death."

"Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death."

"The family would like to thank the police and coroner for their continuing thorough investigations and for keeping them informed throughout the process."

"They await the outcome of the inquest in October."

It's worth noting that Amy's family claims no illegal drugs were present in her system, but they made absolutely no mention of prescription drugs.

A source close to the family would not comment on prescription drugs, even though he and the rest of the family were categorical on illegal drugs.

The family says they have seen toxicology reports which discount illegal drugs. No further information has been released as of this article's posting.

As for prescription drugs, there are a number that contain opiates similar to heroin, which she famously battled, including OxyContin and morphine.

That's just us speculating, but given who we're talking about and her young age, it's worth noting. What do you think? Leave a comment below.

Very sad. This coupled with the fact that she was trying to adopt a child makes me think she was trying to turn her life around for the better. It's a shame she never got the chance.

It was sad to see the shape she had gotten into when she did let drugs get the best of her, and she had lost so much weight. She had been all dolled up in so many of her pics, and that voice was so beautiful. It is a shame she couldn't have gotten the help she needed to have saved her from such a young death. She should have had a long beautiful life to write and sing her music!!!

Her poor little heart was probably worn out with all the abuse it received. It's that simple.

All and All still what a tragic loss....I am happy that the parents now know the truth about their daughter that she did not die of a drug overdose...still I believe in my heart that the years and years of previous drug and alcohol abuse finally took its toll on her body.Never the is still very very sad.

Now all the drug jokes can be put to rest now.
