A "DUI" pe-se, by definition does NOT "hurt" anyone. It simply means that someone was, indeed intoxicated while operating a motor vehicle. Not every DUI ends in an accident, or property damage or death or injury (thank God!). So your facts are not correct when you say that death or injuries happen in "most DUI cases"..Not true.

Obviously we don't want people driving under the influence at all. Weather they cause damage or injure someone or not...So, of course some kind of punishment is appropriate to change the drivers behavior so that they don't eventually hurt someone or cause damage.

I think that no matter who you are and first or last DUI's are not a joke and can hurt innocent people causing death or injuries most cases. So do the crime to the time. Famous or not.
