Bruce Beresford-Redman to Stand Trial in Mexico

by at . Comments

Bruce Beresford-Redman, the former TV producer accused of killing his wife outside a resort in Cancun, has been ordered back to Quintana Roo, Mexico to stand trial on charges of aggravated homicide.

The incident took place in November, when the body of Bruce's wife, Monica, washed up in a sewer system near the hotel where she had been staying with her family. The cause of death was asphyxiation.

Bruce's attorneys claimed the police were too quick to charge their client and lacked any physical evidence.

But United States prosecutors say fellow guests heard screams emanating from the couple's room and that detectives subsequent discovered blood spatter in the bathroom and in other areas of the room.

The ex-Survivor producer has been behind bars in Los Angeles, but will soon be moved to Mexico. He faces up to 30 years in prison if found guilty.

"He faces up to 30 years in prison if found guilty." Incorrect. He faces thirteen to thirty years.

The Mexican state of Quintana Roo has until 2016 to convert to the constitutionally mandated system of trials in open court. Presently there are no trials in the state of Quintana Roo. A judge reads the written depositions and renders a decision. No presumption of innocence, no right to cross-examine witnesses, no open court, no Perry Mason stuff. So far only six states are in compliance, and Quintana Roo isn't one of them. If he is extradited there will be no trial.

Assassinato de minha amiga Mônica é incluído nas fofocas de Hollywood, mas graças a sites assim pude obter informação quase todos os dias sobre esse caso.

Thankx for keeping track for this case. I am in Brazil and was a good friend of Monica. Thanks to you and other journalists I can get updated information. please do not forget to mention the problems Burgos family is having to get the kids guardianship and with the will monica did - The Redmans are trying to validate a fake Will in their benefit. If the Redmans keep the kids under their wings justice is not done. Monica's mother is in Brazil, she is depressed but has all the conditions to raise the kids in the city their mother grew: Rio de Janeiro.

Im glad hes going to be tried for his wifes murder. Its such a shame that his kids have not only lost their mother but if this man is guilty, they'll lose him too. Great job thinking of the kids!
