Brad Pitt on NY Gay Marriage Ruling: An Encouraging Step
Gay couples can now get married in the state of New York.
That's great and all, Brad Pitt tells People, but it's not enough. Not by a great number of states.
“It is encouraging that New York has joined the movement to grant equal marriage rights to its citizens," the actor said. "But it is each American’s Constitutional right to marry the person they love, no matter what state they inhabit."
In 2006, Pitt said he and Angelina Jolie would get hitched as soon as gay marriage was legal across the nation. Concluded the liberal A-lister:
“No state should decide who can marry and who cannot. Thanks to the tireless work of so many, someday soon this discrimination will end and every American will be able to enjoy their equal right to marriage."
