Last night on The Late Show with David Letterman, Jim Carrey pulled an interesting move by ripping off an old story of Tom Hanks' almost verbatim.
Ironically, the unoriginal story made for pretty original comedy.
Making the rounds to promote Mr. Popper's Penguins, Carrey did his best Hanks impersonation, only without any indication that he was doing one.
Until Letterman called him on it, of course ...
Carrey recreated one of Hanks' more memorable visits to the Late Show from 2009, retelling Tom's story involving his dogs encountering a skunk.
Comedy cover? Just-for-kicks gag? Paying homage to an interview that neither Tom Hanks, Letterman or anyone else expected would be paid homage to?
Call it what you want, it was vintage Carrey.
