Gwyneth Paltrow Blogs About Homosexuality, Alleged Bible Condemnation

by at . Comments

Gwyneth Paltrow took to her Goop blog today and raised an issue sure to result in numerous responses on both sides:

Does the bible truly condemn homosexuality? This is what the actress wrote:

A few months ago, in the heat of the tragic teen suicides that came about from intolerance of homosexuality, I saw a man on television who was apologizing for wishing death on gays from his facebook page. This member of an Arkansas school board was contrite for the violence in his words, but maintained that his values pertaining to homosexuality would remain, as he felt homosexuality was condemned in the bible.

This concept, while foreign to me, is interesting, as it used to justify so much judgement and separation in our society. When my daughter came home from school one day saying that a classmate had two mommies, my response was, "Two mommies? How lucky is she?!" What does it actually say in the bible that will cause some people to be upset by my line of thinking?

Respond away, THG readers. But try to keep it respectful as you answer: Does the bible condemn homosexuality?

I just don't understand ignorance. People still don't believe that being gay(homo is such a nasty word) IS NOT a choice...this is the way you are born. Why in the world would ALL gay people choose a life where they are hated by so may people??? If one of my kids were gay, I would be extremely sad...not because they are gay, but because how ignorant people in this world would treat them.

For me the bible is saying that a man should not lay with another man (or women) with the spirit of perversion. Love is different and humans know the difference. I believe in same sex marriage. Love is love. It cannot be denied.

The bible condemns homosexuality....that is one reason he ruined Sodom and Gomorrah...because of the way they lived in a sinful life. God hates the act of homosexuality but he loves the homosexual.

no one has the right to judge every sins only god can judge on judgment day so look at people for who they are not who they claim to be in love with

This is EXACTLY why I have a whole lot of issues with God and the bible. Who knows EXACTLY what it is supposed to mean. I dont believe in God and I am sick to death of people trying to push their religious beliefs down others throats. First of all Gays/Lesbians/Transgenders are born this way they do not choose this. Who would??? Who would choose to be ridiculed every day to the point that they want to die or just be "normal". What is normal??? I am a full supporter of gays/lesbians and transgenders and feel that they should be treated just like each and everyone else. They have the same blood running through them they are humans and they have feelings. So people lighten up and realize this is 2011 and they arent going anywhere(nor should they) and they are everywhere. So to the gays/lesbians/bisexuals/transgenders stand proud stand tall and be who you are meant to be...YOU!!!!

The Bible talks about how homosexuality is a sin, however, who are we to judge? All sin is the same in God's eyes and we all sin so judging someone for being homosexual is a sin. I don't support it but i can't honestly judge them without taking a good, hard look at myself.

Alisa.. first of all, do you know how busy she is?!!! I'm not saying she shouldn't read the bible, but Dang girl, that's a long book. I think EVERYBODY should read the bible at least once, sometime in their life. Why don't you try? As for Ms. Paltrow~ I'm not sure what it says exactly, but most of what I got from reading it is that homosexuality isn't liked by God. It is considered Sodomy for men and women alike, which is apparently a sin.

What I learned in bible school was basically were put on this earth to reproduce so people could serve god. You cant do that if your gay. Its funny people act like they don't care about homos BUT if it was one of their children or someone close to them I think they'd be singing a different tune.

If you want to know what the Bible says, try reading it.

Gwyneth Paltrow Quotes

I've learned more about myself being married than anything else. I hate to say, "We've got it worked out," because you never know what's going to happen, but we laugh, we're good friends, we like to do the same stuff.

Gwyneth Paltrow

It's hard being married. You go through great times, you go through terrible times. We're the same as any couple.
