Gwyneth Paltrow Blogs About Homosexuality, Alleged Bible Condemnation

by at . Comments

Gwyneth Paltrow took to her Goop blog today and raised an issue sure to result in numerous responses on both sides:

Does the bible truly condemn homosexuality? This is what the actress wrote:

A few months ago, in the heat of the tragic teen suicides that came about from intolerance of homosexuality, I saw a man on television who was apologizing for wishing death on gays from his facebook page. This member of an Arkansas school board was contrite for the violence in his words, but maintained that his values pertaining to homosexuality would remain, as he felt homosexuality was condemned in the bible.

This concept, while foreign to me, is interesting, as it used to justify so much judgement and separation in our society. When my daughter came home from school one day saying that a classmate had two mommies, my response was, "Two mommies? How lucky is she?!" What does it actually say in the bible that will cause some people to be upset by my line of thinking?

Respond away, THG readers. But try to keep it respectful as you answer: Does the bible condemn homosexuality?

Ok, we all sin. So whether it's by being gay or lying, cheating, thinking terrible thoughts, whatever, unless you are the Lamb of God, you have no right to judge. Right or wrong, we all sin, were all stained. End of story.

It's amazing how people quote "bible school" but they completely ignore the teachings of Jesus! Let me remind you that his teachings were to LOVE one another, and to NOT JUDGE.
The Christian Church would have you believe that it is OK to judge. It is OK to separate and condemn others because of WHO THEY ARE.
I believe Jesus Christ, if he were alive today would be appalled by the condemnation of gays, other religions, and the constant separation between others.
People, WAKE UP! You are not a RELIGION- you are a BELOVED CHILD OF GOD- and thus- FOLLOW HIS TEACHINGS. LOVE ONE ANOTHER!

All religions are man made...made up for many reasons...for power, control and to promote hope for an after life. There is nothing wrong with homosexuality...there is no God and we are all food for worms. I don't need a bible to tell me to be moral, love my neighbor or judge gays. I seem to be accepting of everyone just fine with out worry about how a God would judge this or that. It's all nonsense and causes much more judgement in the world than necessary. Love the gays...they are some of the most awesome people I know.

Yawn.
Your quotes of Bible passages are tiring.
Whereas I support you and your right to believe in the Bible and its contents, It is a book written by mortal men. It is an interpretation of G*'d's word.
However, G*d is said to have created us all in His image- which includes homosexual/gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender/queer people as well as anyone else, straight or otherwise.
G8d would not create an abomination- you, yourself said so, in your non-quoted portions of your textbook.
Which do you CHOOSE to believe?
Get over yourself.
G*d will do the judging. Live a good life- be nice to others and apologize when you are not. Take responsibility for your (own) actions. Leave others to theirs. If it doesn't directly affect you- mind your own.
Gays loving one another DOES NOT AFFECT YOU.

That attitude has NOTHING to do with God or love and EVERYTHING to do with easing the consciences of those who CHOOSE to hate.

The Bible, most popularly known by it's King James Translation was ordered into the English language during the 1500s. The interesting part is King James was 100% certified homosexual. Nicknamed affectionately: "Queen James", by his closest subjects. In fact most of the verses that Christians attribute in the bible to be anti-homosexual didn't appear until 1946 when someone came along and revised the King James Version of the bible into modern English In fact there are no condemnations of homosexuality in the original Greek or Hebrew texts. It wasn't until about 100 years after the church stopped performing gay marriages that"English" translations deliberately mistranslated the text to condemn homosexuality.

I love how people throw out bible verses to prove a point. Do you not see how many times those verses contridicted themselves? That being said being raised as almost every religion under the sun, you can sin your whole life and be on your death bed and say "God, I'm sorry for what I did. Forgive me." And you can then "inherit" the kingdom of God. So I say fuck it, sin away. As for the all the gay/lesbian/bi/transgender people out there I LOVE YOU!! Stay strong and don't let any ignorant God loving asshole ruin your life. It is not your job to make them happy.

Yes it is a sin.... However a sin is a sin.... No one sin is greater than the other.

Gwyneth Paltrow Quotes

I've learned more about myself being married than anything else. I hate to say, "We've got it worked out," because you never know what's going to happen, but we laugh, we're good friends, we like to do the same stuff.

Gwyneth Paltrow

It's hard being married. You go through great times, you go through terrible times. We're the same as any couple.
