Gwyneth Paltrow Blogs About Homosexuality, Alleged Bible Condemnation

by at . Comments

Gwyneth Paltrow took to her Goop blog today and raised an issue sure to result in numerous responses on both sides:

Does the bible truly condemn homosexuality? This is what the actress wrote:

A few months ago, in the heat of the tragic teen suicides that came about from intolerance of homosexuality, I saw a man on television who was apologizing for wishing death on gays from his facebook page. This member of an Arkansas school board was contrite for the violence in his words, but maintained that his values pertaining to homosexuality would remain, as he felt homosexuality was condemned in the bible.

This concept, while foreign to me, is interesting, as it used to justify so much judgement and separation in our society. When my daughter came home from school one day saying that a classmate had two mommies, my response was, "Two mommies? How lucky is she?!" What does it actually say in the bible that will cause some people to be upset by my line of thinking?

Respond away, THG readers. But try to keep it respectful as you answer: Does the bible condemn homosexuality?

I was told by an older Christian women that God would never "make" anyone gay, they choose to be this way and it is sinful. In my opinion she has very little understanding of homosexuality. I firmly believe we are born gay or straight and God loves us either way and wants us to love each other. I really think some people use the Bible to promote their own prejudices.

Oh and, @Marnie, you go! That's the right idea. I completely agree. :)

Even if the Bible says it's a sin, you shouldn't be letting a book- an outdated book that has no place in modern society- dictate your life.
One must wonder why a book that is supposed to promote kindness to all people, forgiveness and peace, would write a passage of prejudice and hate, and say that is not wrong. It goes almost completely against Jesus' theorem.

homosexuality is a abomanation it is a sin! God is clear on this

The act of homosexuality is a sin, not the sinner. We are all sinners but by the grace of God the blood of Jesus we are made sinless. It is not our right to judge the sinner but as christian brothers and sisters, we have a right to let each other know if we are doing something that is not right in the eyes of God just as the bible says to confess our sins one to the other. We just need to lift each other up in prayer and ask God to bless and deal with that person the way God deals with each of us, with Godly love and correction as only God can change our hearts. The battle also is in the mind!

How convenient. A handbook of hate for the self righteous. My mother is a lesbian. She is a better chr istian than anyone I know. She judges noone, enjoys helping others who can't help themselves, and asks for nothing in return. References to they and them set gay people apart from us, but they are just like us. No one has anything to gain from hate or intolerance. Please remember the next time you are thinking these hateful thoughts that you are talking about my mother, my children's loving grandmother, and a pretty great mother-in-law to my husband.

The Bible does say it is a sin. But I do not believe that God would punish those who choose this lifestyle. I believe that God sees us as our parents sees us. God has mercy and forgives his children no matter what they've done that is his love. I personally do not have anything against those who chose this lifestyle who am I to judge. To those who condemn these people you don't have the right to judge and to say that these people should be hurt or die because of what they choose. As Jesus said "let he who is without sin cast the first stone." God truly loves each and everyone of us no matter what we may have done or will do. God knows our hearts already. I think as long as we remember that we are All God's Children our hearts will shine on. God Bless everyone!!!!

We don't have the right to judge. Homosexuals are born that way let them be. We need to stop condemning everyone who doesn't behave "normally" thank goodness for diversity.

i'm not here to judge, that is Gods work. but if everyone would read scriptures some have placed here your question would automaically be answered. in fact homsexuality is an abomination.but as some have said sin is sin. but to be saved you have to repent first, which ,means to turn away from the sin and not to return to it.i guess everyone has to figure out where they stand with the Lord. i'm not to sure about a person being borned a gay person so i cant comment on that. but i do feel its a choice but as i said guess i could be wrong. its hard for me to believe that the Lord would set someone like that.again its not for me to say or judge. christian love l.bruce

Gwyneth Paltrow Quotes

I've learned more about myself being married than anything else. I hate to say, "We've got it worked out," because you never know what's going to happen, but we laugh, we're good friends, we like to do the same stuff.

Gwyneth Paltrow

It's hard being married. You go through great times, you go through terrible times. We're the same as any couple.
