Did Adam Levine Slam Adam Lambert on The Voice?

by at . Comments

The Voice highlighted its final eight contestants last night.

But instead of focusing on the performances, Twitter was alive this morning with buzz over one of Adam Levine's critiques.

As seen below, in praising Nakia for his cover of “Whataya Want From Me,” the Maroon 5 singer took a few seemingly random jabs at Adam Lambert.

“I’m not familiar with that song, but you just forced me to like it,” Levine said. “I’m pretty sure, although I’ve never heard that song before, that you probably sang it better than the person that sang it originally."

Was Levine simply giving Nakia props? Perhaps. But his repeated references to being unfamiliar with the original song and artist have raised the ire of Lambert lovers.

In response, the former
American Idol finalist took the high road (mostly) on Twitter:

“I think Adam might know who I am after this next album. Get ready for me Levine. Hahah... But for the record, Im def a Maroon 5 fan. Fans: there is NO reason to be angry. Thanks for being protective but it's all good. :)”

Levine isn't the only judge on The Voice in hot water over a recent comment. Cee Lo Green took to Twitter himself yesterday to clarify a remark many considered to be anti-gay.

Back to Levine, though: Do you think he meant to diss Lambert?

Lavine should not have made the comments he did! So insensitive no matter who he was commenting about. It's like saying someone could sing a Michael Jackson song better that Michael Jackson. It would never happen!

For the average listener to not recognize a hit top 40 song is perfectly understandable. A professional performer, judging a national, primetime singing competition would be expected to be more conversant with current music. Especially when the song under discussion is on the same "2011 Grammy Nominees" CD as his own. Presumably, as a member of The Recording Academy, Levine voted for the Grammy nominees this year. Did he not actually listen to Adam Lambert's nominated performance before he voted?

Adam Levine has no class what a jerk!!!!

Why does everyone want to be back in high school? Thats exactly what this article shows. People are going to pick apart every single comment made and turn it into a diss just so they can feel the drama, and I guess feel important. . . Levine was critiquing. That's his job, Get over it. . .BTW Not everyone knows who Lambert is.

I didnt kno lambert sang this song.... Im real bad wit which artist sang wat even tho i love music. Neways i dnt think he ment nething bad but he is in the music industry and a judge on a singing competion he shud kno his artist.

Well it kinda makes ya think he lives under a rock...both songs were hits and in his bands genre. Keep up with the competition Levine!!

if you pay attention, Levine says that he doesn't know the song..not the artist. meaning he hasn't heard it before. He also mentions that he hasn't heard the Script song either. He was just giving props to Nakia not dissing Lambert. Why do people read so much into what people say. Stop taking it out of context.

In the intro before the song, Cee-Lo mentioned it was an Adam Lambert song....so Adam Levine had to know who he was dissing.

Nakia does not sing it better than Lambert...In fact last night on the Voice Frenchie and Xenia were the best of all of them.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, they say. I guess it was an okay performance, but no-one can compare to Adam Lambert no where, no time, no how. Period, end of discussion!!!!!!
