Legendary fighter and current Dancing With the Stars cast member Sugar Ray Leonard says he was molested by a "prominent Olympic boxing coach."
The incident happened when he was 15 years old, and Ray says the incident has "haunted me for life," the boxer reveals in his upcoming biography.
In The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring, he doesn't mince words.
The coach "unzipped my pants and put his hand, then his mouth, on an area that has haunted me for life," the former champion fighter writes, hauntingly.
He adds, "I didn't scream. I didn’t look at him. I opened the door and ran."
Leonard never identifies the coach, but claims the man has passed away.
Sugar Ray also mentions his cocaine use, growing up in a home with alcohol abuse and domestic violence, surviving an auto accident with his mother at the wheel, almost drowning in a creek as a child unable to swim, and fathering a son at 17.
Needless to say, he overcame a lot to become the man he was today. Hopefully his story provides encouragement to victims of sexual abuse and other tragedies.
