Did Lee DeWyze Snub Scotty McCreery, American Idol?

In the wake of Scotty McCreery's American Idol triumph, the country is asking multiple questions today?

  1. Did he deserve to win? It's debatable.
  2. Are Lauren and Scotty dating? No.
  3. Did Lee DeWyze snub the show last night? Sort of.

Typically, the previous winner ends up on the stage to congratulate the new champ and hand him/her a trophy. But DeWyze was seated in the fifth row at the finale, and Ryan Seacrest never even mentioned his name.

What happened?

The 10th American IdolNinth Idol

According to producer Nigel Lythgoe, DeWyze refused to be a good sport. The producer Tweeted today: "I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn't present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he's been on the show this Season. I guess he was shy."

But the season nine title holder says it's the opposite: he was never asked to participate!

"I was not asked to be involved in the Finale," Lee wrote in response. "It wasn't until about 2 minutes before they announced that Nigel had approached me and asked if he could "borrow" me for a second. I didnt feel a last second jump on stage was appropriate. It was Scotty's moment."

True. But it's Lythgoe's show.

What do you think, readers? Is there a real beef here? Or was it simply a case of misunderstanding?

Lee is not to be blamed for this at all. Let's face the facts; the American Idol producers didn't care to showcase Lee in the finale because of his poor record sales. I would be upset if I was Lee.

I think people are being unfair to Scotty. He was not my favorite, but i will say this, Homeboy knows how to sing country.

If they were really going to ask him, they should have done that in advance. I commend Lee for turning the last minute invite down. And shame on Seacrest for not acknowledging the previous idol's presence in the audience.

Give me a break. Tom Jones got time but Lee didn't!!! Nygil missed the boat. Never seemed to be much back-up promotion for former Idols. We were really hoping to see more of Lee on the finale. Lee's the biggest reason we watched Season 9 and why we stay interested in Season 10...of course Steven Tyler was a huge, sweet draw too!!! Talent was good this time around over all but Lee will always be best to us. Know he has a great future. See you in Temecula!!!

Lee is awesome but I don't blame him for turning down a last second request. He was never mentioned like he didn't exist. He would never snub Scotty or anyone else. He's the one who was snubbed! It wasn't about "poor planning." The request was an insincere gesture at best. Lady Ka Ka and J-Lo's wiggling naked wa-zoo took center stage. I voted for Lee last year and still love him. I sure wish his tours included more time where I live. Lee, you're still the bomb!

I missed this. Was Jack Black really there !?

Totally tasteless of the producer not to have Lee Dewyze hand the crown over to Scotty. He did it because he knew Lady GAG GAG would probably take up too much time. He should have planned better. Would much rather see Lee DeWyze than Lady GG.

Fuck Nigel. He was to cheap to pay Paula, he lost Simon, and now he doesn't want to look like an ass by giving Lee two seconds after snubbing him from the finale. How stupid was Nigel to snub last years winner so he could get Lady Drag Quee.

I love Lee dewyze and he seems like such a cool guy I am sure he would never disrespect Scotty. I'm sure it was just like he said he felt it was scotty's moment. Shame on Nygil for putting him on blast like that
