Arnold Schwarzenegger Affair Fallout: Did He Get Caught? Why Did He Come Clean Now?
Arnold Schwarzenegger's startling admission that he fathered a child out of wedlock over a decade ago begs a number of questions, chief among them:
- Who is the mystery female employee he impregnated?
- Having hidden it so well under heavy scrutiny, why admit it now?
- How could be run for office while hiding a secret of this magnitude?
We don't know the answer to question #1 right now, though we imagine we will in time. The second is equally unclear. The third? Only Arnold knows.
His mistress, who worked in the family's home and continued to do so until earlier this year, always maintained that her then-husband was the dad.
This is a remarkable story for a number of reasons.
Even if Schwarzenegger's public persona was a macho rogue, adultery doesn't play well with voters ... nor does lying and pulling a John Edwards.
When the former U.S. senator and presidential candidate knocked up Rielle Hunter, he denied it to everyone's face until he was flat out busted.
Arnold, according to reports today at least, came clean to wife Maria Shriver very recently, prompting her to leave the actor and ex-governor.
Schwarzenegger and Shriver separated last week and have four children ages 13-21. The split came amid rumors of Arnold's philandering and drifting apart from his wife, but no mention of his affair or illegitimate child was made.
Until the Los Angeles Times broke the story yesterday and he confirmed it. The question is whether the Times would have found anything had the couple not split up, and if not, why Arnold didn't just take this one to his grave.
His behavior and history with women became an issue during his first campaign for California governor, in the 2003 election, but he weathered it.
Shriver offered a timely and politically crucial defense of her husband, vouching for his personal integrity. He won in 2003, then again in 2006.
So after all that, how did this come out now, right after he left the state house and returned to life as a private citizen? Perhaps because of that?
Maybe his hand was forced in some way. Maybe he just couldn't keep it from Maria anymore and the guilt ate away at him. Maybe time will tell.
Earlier today, Maria Shriver released a statement, saying, "This is a painful and heartbreaking time. As a mother, my concern is for the children."

Just read the comments from other responders. It is totaly impossible to believe that Arnold's FLABBY ego could allow him to cheat on Maria!
His abs must have become FLAB!!!!!!!!DIGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hope he knows of the negativity that he has caused our youth to develop. What could Maria's children possibly be feeling?!?!?!?

I believe that Arnold did a crime. Be ashamed of it,and ruined family. SUCH A SNEAKY MAN. He ruined governor's name too. Maria is a wonderful, honest, innocent lady. Maria is a winner Arnold is a big looser.

None of this should come as the slightest surprise. Arnold has been known for his aggressive groping/sexual harassment of women since he first became known in the public arena. He has't changed (serial philanderers typically don't)and eventually we may even learn that he's got a lot in common with Tiger Woods. It's being reported that he had an office and separate staff where he would "meet" women (allegedly) for extracurricular activities. I'm sure the IRONY of Maria defending her husband against other women's complaints when he was running for office has not escaped her. Without her standing up for him and making all those women victims seem less credible, he could not have been governor. By her revelations on Oprah, it seems Maria has had a difficult, pressure-filled life from an early age where so much was required in order to measure up to the Kennedy/Shriver name. I hope she is able to find true validation and much happiness in her new life.

All I can say is kudos to both Arnold and Patty for experiencing such a chemistry that's beyond everyone else's understanding. Obviously, there was something magical between them, allowing them to reproduce. I am deeply sorry, however, for Maria and her children for the unfaithfulness and betrayal. But if God can forgive, why can't they do the same. After all, to err is human, to forgive divine. I am not faulting anyone, in fact, I commend Arnold for finally stepping up to the plate and take ownership of his booboos, if that was the case. Finally, while thinking about the child, I simply hope he will give all his half brothers and sisters a chance to get used to the idea that he exists and give them the chance to learn to accept him. I shall pray every night for Arnold and his immediate and extended family, pray for that the Lord give them the strength to carry on. We all want to live in a imperfect world wanting everyone to be perfect, but reality has a way of waking all of us
