Demi Lovato: I Have a Life-Long Disease...

by at . Comments

For the first time since she entered and exited rehab, Demi Lovato has opened up about one of the main reasons for ending up there: she has struggled for years with bulimia.

"I don't think there's going to be a day when I don't think about food or my body," the 18-year old says in the latest issue of Seventeen. "But I'm living with it, and I wish I could tell young girls to find their safe place and stay with it."

Lovato admits there's no easy way to move on from this disorder. She says: "There have been times when I definitely have been tempted to get rid of my dinner. I will deal with it for the rest of my life because it's a life-long disease."

Does she have any advice for other teens out there?

"If you are going through that dark period, go to your family and closest friends. Don’t put yourself in danger... don’t ever inflict harm on your own body because your body is so sacred. I wish I could tell every young girl with an eating disorder, or who has harmed herself in any way, that she’s worthy of life and that her life has meaning. You can overcome and get through anything."

Salient words from a brave young star.

If you educate yourself you will realize how very wrong you are.

i think its ridiculous that ppl call things like bulimia and addiction a disease... its simply a lack of will power. i know ppl are just going to get angry at what i say but really if you think about it thats all it is. actual diseases are things that are contageous, or in the blood, & use medicine to treat. these are mental issues, not diseases... i hope ppl get what i mean by that...
either way im glad she is doing better! i havent seen her in anything so i cant say im a fan but i like her for some reason ^_^

Poor Demi. She's been through so much. She's struggled with an eating disorder, cutting, had personal pics of her leaked online, has been labeled a slut for those photos, and has been to rehab. She's also been traumatized by bullying. And yet people still categorized her as one of the worst celebrity influences of 2010. Pathetic. The pressure on starlets my age to be perfect disgusts me. With all of the health and emotional problems this girl has been through, you'd think people would at least be sympathetic enough to cut her some slack. But no, hollywood starlets aren't seen as real people with real feelings and problems. We just see them as something to laugh at and critisize.

My dear Shnorkle, It was a joke. Can I please wire transfer a dollar to you so that you can buy a sense of humor.

@randyjacksonsbutt. You 'only read the headline' and yet still felt you had the right to make a derogatory remark. Bulimia is serious and something many young girls struggle to deal with. You're an idiot. Go spread your stupidity somewhere else.

Would that disease be herpes??? Sorry, only read the headline.

Hmmm, she can overcome this if she want to and i dnt beliv its a life long disease cos i've seen many pple who went thru d same road like her n overcome it. Tho am not a med doc bt she can pull thru. My advise to Demi is dat she should stop makin insignificant things significant. Be happy 4 who u are not who u want to be or who u want 2 look like. Be positive.

Anorexia isn't a life-long disease. It's not a disease at all! Just another young star cracking because of the pressure of being "perfect" for hollywood. Shame on her parents.

Salient words from a 'brave young star's' publicist or speech writer, asshole.
Who knows what she REALLY thinks ? The shit we're reading is what she wants her FANS to read so that they think no ill of her. My God, Hilton Hater, you are SUCH A biased bitch.
