David Cook returned to his old stomping grounds last night.

Before the American Idol results were announced, fans were treated to an energetic performance of the Season 7 winner's new single, "The Last Goodbye."

A month ago or so, he appeared on the show to do the Simple Minds classic "Don’t You (Forget About Me)," but this time he shared with us his own song.

Dressed in a dark suit and strumming on an oversized white guitar, Cook showed why viewers made him the next American Idol a few years back:

I think his performance was really good compared to many other artists who cannot deliver live performances like David. Cannot wait to get his new album at June 28.

I'm a huge David Cook fan, and thought his vocals were fine, but I thought the song itself was mediocre, at best. I didn't even think David looked like he was 'into' the performance -- maybe he thinks the song sucks too.

sorry to say, but DC was really, really bad last night! b.a.d.

Just a correction to your blog. Cook DID NOT appear on Idol a month ago with Don't You (Forget About Me). Idol started using it as the boot song then. He will appear in May to sing it live.

Brooke White's tears come from the authentic, good soul that she is. Her heart was breaking because she was overwhelmed with the experience she had with the show and the gift that it brought.

I read some of this online this morning and just for the record, the rumors — they’re not true. She’s part of our family and we love her.
