Dancing With the Stars Recap: Kirstie Alley, Maksim Chmerkovskiy Fall, Make Full Recovery!

by at . Comments

Hines Ward and Petra Nemcova led the way last night on Dancing With the Stars with scores of 25 apiece, but Kirstie Alley's routine got the most buzz.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy's fall to start his rumba with Kirstie was the defining moment of week three, but the way they recovered was the bigger story.

It appeared that Maks' leg just gave out and he tumbled while holding Alley, who also went down hard. But they rallied for a respectable 21. Watch:

Monday was personal story night on DWTS, with Kirstie and Maks dancing to "Over the Rainbow," and Alley telling the poignant story of her move to L.A.

Who knew she'd have another story to tell right after.

"My thigh just gave out. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry," said Maks, who had to take this really hard as a perfectionist. "It has nothing to do with her."

"Sometimes tragedy leads to an amazingly beautiful moment," Carrie Ann Inaba said, noting that after the fall "something magical happened."

Bruno added, "You can't keep good talent down. Once you got up it was better than ever." Indeed. How did that score of 21 match up? Let's see:

  • Hines Ward and Kym Johnson: 9-8-8 (25).
  • Petra Nemcova and Dmitry Chaplin: 8-9-8 (25).
  • Kendra Wilkinson and Louis Van Amstel: 8-7-8 (23).
  • Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas: 8-7-8 (23).
  • Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: 7-7-7 (21).
  • Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff: 7-7-7 (21).
  • Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke: 7-7-7 (21).
  • Romeo and Chelsie Hightower: 7-6-7 (20).
  • Sugar Ray Leonard and Anna Trebunskaya: 7-6-7 (20).
  • Wendy Williams and Tony Dovolani: 5-5-5 (15).

Who do you be in jeopardy tonight, besides the obvious Wendy? Will Maks and Kirstie emerge from this night stronger and more popular than ever?

We know it's early, but who will win Season 12? Vote below, and stay tuned to THG for more videos and updates from DWTS throughout the day:

Now you know Gorge Lopez had a Great time waching her fall. By the way there is no way she should have gotten a 21.

Kirstie has gone through a lot and she takes it all in stride. You have to admire her and her ability to go with it. She's a pretty neat person! She needs to like herself more because
she's who she is and that's great. I think she rocks!

Sadly, Wendy Williams (I'm guessing not the gal from The Plasmatics) cannot dance as well as this hippo. Alley scores better than three other contestant but can't keep her balance? How is this possible?

I really want to applaud Maks for the way he continued with Kirsty after his mishap, I've pulled muscles so I know it must have been extremely painful for him to continue after pulling out his hip. I was amazed how he held up his finger to Kirsty to say "just give me a second to collect myself" and then carried on. Bravo Maks...you're a real professional!!

I guess you're some kind of prize who could go out and burn up the dance floor? I voted for Maks and Kirstie (all 9 votes). As Tom B. said, "It's not how you fall; it's how you get up."

If this wasn't scripted television, Kristie and her partner would be voted off.

Kirstie Alley crushes yet another man under the weight of her massive thunder thighs. Need to put that hippo back in its mud bog before more dancers get hurt.

    Great recovery last night Kristie.

Len is so grouchy lately........he needs to "chill" and also why do they need Brooke (or anyone for that matter, Tom does a super job all by himself) to talk to the dancers after their routine..her questions are so "stupid"....just my thoughts, but it's one of my favorite shows

    Dancing with the Stars Quotes

We should have started dancing with one arm waaay before.

Cristian de la Fuente [following his injury, trip to the hospital and subsequent stellar performance]

I am not the best dancer, and I have not been the best dancer from the beginning. I am happy we made it this far.
