Sandra Bullock and Demi Lovato Donate $1 Million to Japanese Earthquake, Tsunami Relief
Oscar winner Sandra Bullock has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan, the charity confirms to CNN.
This is the largest celebrity donation to the Red Cross since the disaster, although the charity has received other big anonymous donations, it reports.
Other stars, such as Lady Gaga, have used social media to encourage fans to give, and it's paid off with $2.6 million in text message donations so far.
This is not the first time Bullock has donated to disaster relief efforts.
Last January, the star gave $1 million to Haiti following the tragic earthquake there. She also is a strong supporter of rebuilding efforts in New Orleans.
Her adopted son, Louis Bardot, also hails from that city.
It's nice to see Sandra and other stars use their status and resources for such important causes. Talk about setting a positive example for all of us.
UPDATE: Celebuzz reports that Demi Lovato has also donated $1 million to the cause, while holding up a sign that encourages others to give whatever they can.

It is good that they donate. They are using their fame for good. And to @Niley, Demi DOES have 1 million to donate. So, she hasn't done anything out of Disney, but her show DOES get a lot of views and she has a K-Mart Sonny With A Chance clothing collection. Her albums and her songs get tons of sales! OF COURSE she has 1 million dollars.

Demi has a million dollars to donate? From where? She can't be a millionaire!!! She has done nothing.... l mean Camp Rock okay, if you are a squiggling teenage girl but what else?? Does she have some investments or something cos with her acting she can't possibly have 1 million dollars to donate... Miley YES (She has actually done a lot, and those promotional stuff uh huh l can see her being a multi-millioniare), Selena YES (I mean that girl has done a lot of movies and her show is good, her singing and her entrepreneurial stuff, like the clothing line, the producing company etc) but Demi????? DEMI??? Weird... She doesn't even have any movies outside Disney... even liner ups or upcoming stuff.... Maybe she is from a rich family.
and @skr- Gaga doesn't have to donate anything, it's not her responsibility, the fact that she donates her time to educate others is enough--- her money her choice (lm not saying it's okay, lm just saying it isn't bad either)
And YES gdo Bless Sandra sh

God bless Sandra she has a good heart and feels for the needs of those that are suffering. I wish others celebrities would open their walllets to aid Japanese and others needing relief efforts. We get far more blessings from giving than receiving. If I were rich I would be the poorest rich person I know, but would be rich in spirit. Pray for the people of Japan that their hardships will be relieved and that God be with them.

So is Gaga herself donating any of her vast fortune? Or just using her influence to get others, some who are no doubt struggling themselves, to donate their money? Just curious...

I can remember Sandra B. being one of the first celebrities to make a sizable donation right after the 911 tragedy. As with Hurricane Katrina and other disasters she is usually one of the first to offer her assistance through donations. Hopefully the power of prayers and continued donations will ease the tremendous burden that is now affecting Japan, and other countries that are desperately trying to recover from so many recent disasters.
